Round 17 - the stuck in Dubbo airport games.

The way players who have just won the ball then keep low and aim their neck at a tackler's arm is pathetic. It's now a blight on the game. A Carlton small just did it, like Ginnivan from the Pies.
And instead of stamping out something that all fans HATE, it's rewarded with a free kick.

Hardwick has eluded to us having to start practicing this technique. What a joke

It's just one of a multitude of reasons people are switching off the footy

The umpires have to start seeing this as prior and giving the tackler the free for holding the ball. Not enough credit is given to Joel Selwood for this. Ginnivan is only copying what he’s seen Selwood get away with for years. If it becomes a rule it should be named the Selwood. It can be his legacy.

Geez, Brisbane pooed the bed.
Ever team in the 8 has been falling over recently.
What a poor time to lose to GC

If the AFL are serious about protecting the head, and they’re prepared to invoke a rule to stop players diving in head first at players legs, then they should also apply something to stop players from ducking/dropping and trying to solicit a head high free on purpose.

It’s a scourge right now. Totally out of control coz they didn’t stop cheats like Selwood in the first place, years ago. Instead they’re more worried about inane *smile* like the dissent rule and STAAAAND !

Good to see WC have someone target Cripps at every bounce or ball up as DeKonning keeps tapping it to him and WC immediately lay a tackle

Short wasn’t awarded a ‘high contact’ free yesterday when the umpire judged him as falling downward at the time, which lead to the accidental high contact from the tackler (which I agreed with); common sense was used.

On the flip side if players are dropping their knees and shoulders, that should be judged as contributing to the high contact.

If they can make a call on whether players have tried hard enough to keep the ball in play, then they can call out players flopping ffs.

It’s a blight on the game.
