Round 15: the sinus infection games.

Us or them ? Melbourne fans give a good account themselves.
Us. Our crowd was louder than usual last week but we still got smashed in the free kick count.
We don't seem to win the Free count whether it's a home game or not. Do think we have lost a bit of an edge overall though re the crowd noise. Success will do that.
As Smoking says hopefully that's coming back a bit now.

It was a bit louder but still waaaay off 2017 and prior levels. Way off.

The grog squad tried to get a “bullsht” chant going and nobody was interested.

I have started to notice a shift in how our supporters are getting louder at games.

I think we have digested the full bellies of premiership success and are starting to get that hunger back.
Agree with that. Think we've gone from deciding which of our three premiership caps to wear to the game to saying, ef this, I want a fourth.

I've heard lots of people say they turn the volume down to follow the footy on TV.

I've never done it. Persisted through Brian Taylor's affected enthusiasm and inanity, Bruce's 'You just feels...', Richo's football for dummies instructionals on how to see exactly what's in front of you, and Brayshaw's primal screeching, but I just can't with Watson.

He has the personality of a jar of mayonnaise on horse tranquilisers, and the perspicacity of a horse with a mouth full of mayonnaise.

You would get more insight from the audio descriptions for the vision impaired. And at least they wouldn't trail along behind a thought only to be interrupted by their own syntax.

It shouldn't take 3 and a half minutes to say that it's slippery when it's raining.

I genuinely get more coherence from the collective harmonies of the grog squad at the game than I do from his commentary during the replay.

Nepotism is a powerful force.

The volume has finally been switched off

I watched the Freo game with the sound turned down - blues music playing in the background, quiet beer with the misses. It actually allows you to watch and interpret the game yourself, much better for blood pressure and allows you to ignore the inane barracking that the commentators do.

I would actually highly recommend it - its mostly when Taylor is commentating as he is shocking and Darcy often ignores the play when we do somthing specie (unless it’s Bolton) but works himself into a slather when the opposition kick goals.

Its like watching the game live - which I find much less stressful that tv.

When supporter bases are starved of success there's no doubt they're more passionate.
I know my blood pressure levels at the footy are still way below what they were prior to 2017.
Won't take long before that gets back up again but won't ever be at 37 years of pain levels again..

In a fantasy world, if I was running channel 7 or producing their football coverage, the first thing I’d do is sack that oafish dinosaur Brian Taylor.

Then, as a follow up to that, I’d send a strong message out to every other commentator, that if they can’t get the players names and numbers right during a game - the most fundamental and basic of requirements - then they’ll be next.

The contrived excitement and quest for an ear-catching line has got noticeably worse too IMO. eg when Freo Brayshaw 'kicks one of the goals of the year!'. It was a nice snap sure, but comment was stupid. Huddo's rehearsed lines are mostly annoying and don't hit the right tone, both in substance and delivery. I'm not against them being rehearsed, they all would be, just the standard is pretty crap.

It would be great to be able to watch the game with all the sounds, the crowd, the ball being kicked, hearing the players etc but without the commentary and like you say interpret the game ourselves (and certainly keep the old blood pressure down).

What a predicament the Eagles are in! Apparently will cost 7 million to sack Simpson now

I agree., but we still have a way to go.

Nothing will approach 2017 levels again. It would have been almost frightening to be on the receiving end. A mixture of almost primeval desire for success and sheer volume of supporters.

Some of my greatest post games have been spent in the social club after a victory in 2017-19.

Strange YOTT I do the same. I always leave the sound off unless I am watching a replay

I also can go to a game and feel much calmer than watching it on TV.

Apparently somewhere near that. Young Tommy's Browneye was explaining it on 7 news tonight. Simmo's on a watertight contract n would be paid about 2.5 mill if he was sacked now. AFL tax for exceeding the soft cap is 200% on every dollar for exceeding the cap by more than 500 thou. Tommy forgot to mention what the tax is on the first 500 thou over though. So I'm thinking his 7 mill might be slightly rubbery, but it would still torch the Weagles arse fevvers.

Yep. Cat supporters are now scared to go to our games.
