I disagree on this one MDJ , always have always will, i Do however understand paid members feeling the way you do, however it is an extreme point , but this is the way I look at it , why should somebody who’s just jumped on the bandwagon and paid for a membership for 1,2 5 years whatever , have the same entitlement to somebody who shook cans 30 years ago , has put the hard earned in to the club through the good and the bad, mainly bad for most , I’m not saying the new member shouldn’t get what they pay for , I just strongly believe loyalty should be rewarded .Everyone's a socialist until it comes to ticket allocations. Why should paying more entitle you to special treatment? What about those that can't afford it? Or why does being a longer term member entitle you to some sort of privilege? What about younger people who've been a member since they could afford it?

im a little more understanding with the finacial side, however its not special treatment it’s getting what you pay for , remember without many big paying/donating people we would certainly not have just won 3 of the last 4 flags, sure there’s some who can’t possibly afford grand final guaranteed type memberships , however theres others who find away to pay for these memberships . Yes it can be tough for the younger generation, however the entitlement you mention is exactly what young people expect now, they believe if they want it now they get it now, sometimes you’ve just got to wait your turn , we all had too.
I think I’m right on this , a poster on PRE has been a member around 50 years and was unable to get a ticket in the 2019 ballot, is that fair ? I don’t think so . I’ve had a sook about this before an yep I’m still sooking in 2019 a group of us who are all platinum Plus members (25+) ,3121 members( guaranteed GF tickets) a couple of us have done unpaid work for the club raising money , which is certainly not done for benefits just part of my point , anyway got absolutely shithouse tickets , yes agree should be happy just to be there and probably would have been if it was 2017 , however when you see / hear about new members, MRC members and so on in awesome spots it just doesn’t sit well with me, yes it is a bit of a “ I’m entitled “ however I believe we have earned the right .
Many will disagree and that’s fair enough, however this is one thing I think loyalty deserves reward
Nobody’s wrong with thoughts on the subject mrp , no doubt loyalty comes in different ways , it’s an argument that can’t be won either way , however with out people putting money into the club we don’t have a club . I.e FitzroyI think it depends. The example you gave is fair enough, but should a 20 year member who has contributed the bare min GA membership and hasn't been to games, really get priority over someone who has maybe been an 8-9 year member but has contributed through reserved seating / various apparel items etc.
Whilst I get your point on loyalty, I don't think its the only thing that matters. Its the overall contribution to the club that should matter.
Eg. in my personal circumstance (and I've been happy not getting a ticket to the GF's in 2017 and 2019) as I understand I haven't been here for the suffering that many have gone through, but I've had a reserved seat membership for 7 years now and went to watch games in the previous 2-3 years, but have only been in Australia for 11 years (and had never seen a game before I moved here). Theres not much more I could have done than what I have done, yet there are people that have been 20 year members, base membership only, don't go to games that always get priority.
Loyalty is shown in more ways than just length of membership.
I've been to 3, maybe four games in the last 20 years. My boys have been to 1 each and we've all been to the 2019 Grand Final. 16 or 17 years of consecutive membership for me.I think it depends. The example you gave is fair enough, but should a 20 year member who has contributed the bare min GA membership and hasn't been to games, really get priority over someone who has maybe been an 8-9 year member but has contributed through reserved seating / various apparel items etc.

I was only asking this a few days ago - and todays events have confirmed my worst fears.......
Having said that I haven't followed AFL reporting closely - so I apologise if this has all been explained.
1. I understand we have a draw for the first 6 weeks
2. does the AFL have a plan B now that we have seen each Premier will close the borders when someone has a sniffle (of course we all know by now that WA was actually a false positive ........ what??? you didn't know that??? why not?)
But seriously ............. the writing is on the wall....
King Dan had no hesitation if flocking up the AUS Open (albeit questions must be asked) so I imagine the AFL is least of his worries.
Does the AFL have a Plan B (another hub?)
If so - my gut feel (which is often wrong) is we might as well throw our arms in the air.
Why bother?
I don't see the clubs moving to QLD again.................. (but I'm sure I'm wrong)
Thoughts?
i never got the medallionI am a MR member. I received my membership pack the other day but did not receive a membership card with a bar code. Only got the MR Medallion. Did you receive anything different?
i agree ,Whilst this is being touted as a 'snap lockdown', it nevertheless raises the question of whether there will be future lockdowns over the next few months as we head into autumn and winter.
I agree with you that clubs will not stand for relocating again, or at least be resistive to the idea.
There is also the issue of what would happen if other states enforce these snap lockdowns. We have now seen WA, SA and QLD do this.
This would create a nightmare scenario for fixturing.
I envisage a climate of uncertainty for the clubs, the supporters and the competition.
As for uncertainty, the last time I went to the footy to see the Tigers play was the 2019 GF.
I have no idea when I will have the opportunity to watch my team again.
Border controls???I've been to 3, maybe four games in the last 20 years. My boys have been to 1 each and we've all been to the 2019 Grand Final. 16 or 17 years of consecutive membership for me.
They've been members since before they were born. We are foundation MRC members and have continued the MRC membership, Tier 1 I think, pre and post game access, from the beginning. MRC needs a match day membership so despite not going to games, we have those as well. Kids are Rookie club members from birth.
Because of the MRC we get a GF guarantee. To use that I need to fly all of us back to Australia for the day, which we did in 2019.
Tell me why you should get priority over us.
I assume "momentarily put on hold" decision is based on potential Covid restrictions
Sadly, this is looming as the most likely scenarioI wouldn't be getting too excited about a crowd even being at a round 1 game.
Or there even being a Round 1 game on schedule.
Especially when are just over a month before the first game.Sadly, this is looming as the most likely scenario
Ok PRE, I just spoke to the club membership dept about R1.
They said Premium Reserved Seat members are guaranteed a ticket for R1.
Regular Reserved Seat Members (which includes myself) as well as GA members will have to go into a ballot. But reserved seat members are likely to get priority over GA members.
The ballot will not be based on seniority at this stage.
About a third of the membership base are interstate, overseas, non-ticketed members, etc.
It's likely you will need to "opt in" and apply for R1 tix so the club can gauge interest.
MCG crowd cap remains at 50,000 at this stage (subject to change of course).
Anyone who misses out on a ticket in R1, will be guaranteed a ticket at the second home game. (Sydney R3).
Flag unfurling may be done at 2 different games for this reason.
The way we are going in Victoria, the only living thing that will be allowed into the MCG in round 1 will be the seagulls.
Well I couldn’t get a ticket in 17 but got one in 19 and 20 and I live in Qld but am currently at 22 years, so did I deserve a ticket in 19 ?I think it depends. The example you gave is fair enough, but should a 20 year member who has contributed the bare min GA membership and hasn't been to games, really get priority over someone who has maybe been an 8-9 year member but has contributed through reserved seating / various apparel items etc.

Agree. The AFL members should be for home team club support first and then away club support second. Any tickets left over in Afl members then open to other Afl members. As an AFL member I’m worried that the same scalping facilitation will occur as non competing club members buy tickets and even guest passes and scalp back to general public.
I have contacted the AFL and got a copy paste response and that they haven’t worked it out yet pretty much.
I just hope they come up with a way to only allow competing club members initial access then open it up if those don’t sell out.
