Round 1 Ticketing and Other Discussion

I am a MR member. I received my membership pack the other day but did not receive a membership card with a bar code. Only got the MR Medallion. Did you receive anything different?
there wont be any cards with barcodes issued at all this season, we will be sent a barcode via the APP if we are successful in the ballot

I think this is going to go south very quickly for the clubs. It was easy to maintain loyalty last year when everyone was locked out but once they start having haves and have nots things are going to get testy very quickly.
I understand the predicament the club is in.
Hell I wanted to offer my GF guarantee to anyone in Brisbane but it wasn't allowed, so I'm prepared to miss out if someone else can go.
So I understand I won't get to see every game but if it's true that the MRC is classed as an add on with our reserved seats then people will start to get antsy.

Yeh we got ours last week.
Just the MRC medallion, with a postcard.
I've since downloaded the RFC app as it's all gone digital.

The only problem with that is no-one was issued a 2021 Barcode

I suspect you will be emailed your barcodes.

I have barcodes as I am an AFLW member and need these to get AFLW home game tickets. My only questions at the moment are whether these are my permanent barcodes for 2021, or just for round 1 and I am still waiting on an answer to my question about a guest ticket for Sunday's game (tickets on sale tomorrow for AFLW members).

i just called the club and we should get all the details next week or week after for Round 1 at the min we have 82k members
im only GA at the min (had to give up my reserved seat when lost my job in 2018) so im not expecting to get a ticket for Round 1 more likely it will be Round 3
Just put my name down again for a reserved seat

Just on the digital aspect, I received my ticket for the first AFLW game a couple of weeks ago at Punt Rd as one of those weird square things on my mobile. One of my frustrations in life is what I think of as inappropriate technology. Yes, mobile phones are great and lots of technology works well (but a hell of a lot of it is just s***). But standing in the line to get into the MCG behind people waving their phones under a scanner until the bloody thing works drives me batty and slows down entry no end.

The reason I mention this is that I printed out the square thingy and it worked very well. I reckon tickets are all going to be electronic this year, maybe they should build some new gates at the MCG to cater for the slowness of this technology when compared to the superior technology of paper, but the upshot is - if you don't want to be fussed with a ticket on a phone, printing it out does work (of course, you need to have a printer which I know not everyone has).

I dont like the no bar codes direction, I am lazy at the best of times. Does this mean I will need to log into systems, have my phone with me at all times, charged, print stuff off... Surely with any change there is an analysis of how the customer/member will embrace this. Im not saying it wont work but what on earth was wrong with the old bard code, swipe, in process. Change is inevitable but highly doubt this one was necessary.

One hopes the membership card with no bar code is a temporary contingency for the uncertainty around crowd numbers in 2021.

My impression is that bar codes on the card will be back in 2022, not much use to me as I am a Roaming Tiger member so need to book a seat for each game and have a separate ticket. For those with General Admission or a specific reserved seat a bar code on the membership card just makes a lot more sense so it should come back.

I hope so. Nowhere in the communications was it mentioned that this was a 2021 process only. I work in IT, we have digitized all out platforms (spent ~ $250M) , I get it... But come the weekend, I just want to swipe and get in. I want to show and sit in my reserved seat area, with a beer in each hand (one for the father in law) and not have to constantly show my phone to take my seat.

I don't understand why they couldn't use barcodes and just change the access for those bar codes on a game by game basis. Would have seemed like the best scenario IMO.

Everyone's a socialist until it comes to ticket allocations. Why should paying more entitle you to special treatment? What about those that can't afford it? Or why does being a longer term member entitle you to some sort of privilege? What about younger people who've been a member since they could afford it?

And this is the issue. As Big Richo alluded to earlier in the thread, this has Sh!T Storm written all over it.

There is also the point that not everyone has historically chosen to have a reserved seat. I'm a platinum member but even in the years I had a high end membership I sold the seat back to the club because I'd rather watch the game from various points throughout the season and it seemed selfish to keep a seat and only use it once all year.

If it was a ticketed game I'd use my member access to choose a seat I wanted for that game.

I don't see why my game access rights should be considered inferior to someone who has been a member for many less years but holds a current reserve seat.

It swings in roundabouts though TBR.

When looking at GF ticket allocation, its all on longevity, so those that contribute less to the club get more access to GF tickets. Ie. people can go to zero games all season and suddenly get a GF ticket ahead of someone who has been to all games all season and pays for a reserved seat.

There is no perfect solution to any of the issues around balloting. I've sucked it up for a few years regarding GF tickets, but I do fund the club with more money than others that don't go to games but then get a GF ticket. I've probably paid more for my tickets and my daughters tickets in the last 7 years than others have spent in 20 but those 20 year members get access to a GF and I don't.

With you on that. A supporter is a supporter is a supporter. You'd hate a 3 or 5 or 10 year GA member to miss out on a ticket in a few consecutive ballots and get the strops up. I'd rather see some sort of rotation system.

Barcode on a card is the same as paper really, very quick and works every time.

I just got the email this evening about rescheduling the AFLW game and how I can book a ticket. What I did notice about the email is that the barcodes sent today are the same as the barcodes for round 1. Looks like we will still have one barcode for the season, at least I hope so.

We had a similar experience when we went to the last H/A game against Adelaide in 2020.

I had the barcodes on my phone. The four of us rocked up and I'd printed the tickets as a backup (I'm a bit old school). We flew through the gates using the print outs while there were pretty long, slow queues of people holding their mobile phones at the ready. I think some might have missed the first bounce.

I love tech but it has to work better than what it is supposed to be replacing.

Its called a QR barcode ;)

You will almost certainly need to download the Ticketek app and have a Ticketek account to access your ticket... unless somone in your group buys the tix and sends you a screenshot of your ticket.

AFLW tickets on sale for AFLW members at 10am this morning.

Oh, wait a minute, "momentarily put on hold". The moment has now lasted half an hour.

I understand that the fixture changed late yesterday but are Ticketek's systems so bad that they can't quickly adjust to this I suppose the answer is yes.

When you look at all the f*** ups with ticket selling you really do wonder. The ticketing companies have one purpose, sell tickets. Yet they seem incapable of doing this without lots of problems.

Ian4, you don't need the app, you just need to print the QR code, it works fine, better than on the phone in the app I suspect.

I assume "momentarily put on hold" decision is based on potential Covid restrictions

Yep. Because we are about to go into another lockdown due to the repeated incompetence of the hotel quarantine fiasco. Again, we the community pay the penalty. Rinse, repeat. It will be 2 years without any live footy. Good luck selling that to us diehards
