Round 1 Finals - the PRE hangdog games.

How good would it have been to have 90k plus at the G next week to watch the the Tiges and Dee's. A golden opportunity lost.
This whole season is an opportunity lost.

Melbourne are very good and this game always looked the hardest to pick. What I like about this result is that it means Geelong need to either get past Melbourne or Sydney in a PF. Melbourne will easily account for Brissie, Brissie are just not that good. I reckon Melbourne are capable of beating Geelong and I would love to see them thrown out in a PF . . . although I am willing to see them out in straight sets.

But Sydney, when they turn on the pressure they are very hard to beat, and pressure is precisely what wins finals and is effective against Geelong.

The skills in that game are a lesson for Richmond. That level is something we need to be a lot closer to. Just can't get away with the fluffed kicks and handpasses against these teams. The fact we were ahead of Sydney and should have won that match shows we can be more competitive. Plus the fact that both teams could execute under pressure is something we need to be a lot better at.

DS
Sydney kicked the ball unbelievably well.
Florent to Parker was unbelievably good.

Still the number one wood in any teams bag. Sadly after three flags we seem to have been sucked into the new n exciting game opening rule changes n left the big stick at home.
Bugger all pressure over the ground during a lot of games this season n we've coughed up most of our close games, including Thurs nights shootout elimination final.
Swannies beat the Dees by squeezing the *smile* out of them n forcing mistakes as they've been doing for years. Even Colonwood this year have shown how pressure works n they haven't missed in the close games.
Did you see the way we tried to close down the game when we were 3 points up?
It was comical.
We tried to keep the ball in congestion bit the ball was still getting out.
We missed soooo many opportunities going inside 50. Rioli 2 times, Short, Baker
We need to get better kicks

Weren’t the Dees supposed to be the benchmark of the competition after winning premiership in 2021 and were supposed to easily win next 2 ?
One more....
When the Dee's won last year they immediately spoke of dynasties.
Get *smile*.
In my honest opinion they only came into form against some banged up sides last year.
They will go straight sets.
For all the faux camaraderie there is a definite toxic under current.
Could the Dees be the shortest lived dynasty since Carlton Rd1-3 this year?
:ROFLMAO:

Swans may have had a leg up with free academy picks but they are less hateable than the other finalists, perhaps Freo aside. And Papley aside.

Today's Cats Pies game is a nightmare for Richmond neutrals. Always want the Cats to lose but that would effectively creates a Melbourne Collingwood Prelim.

last night was a bad result for Geelong

win and they gotta get through Melbourne at the MCG in a PF

lose and have to fend off dogs / freo before facing sydney at the SCG ... before facing Melbourne in the GF

sydney winning made the series that much more delicious IMO

But at least they'll get to whinge about the pre-finals bye costing them a certain flag, so they have something to look forward to.

Geeelong to lose thanks to a dodge goal review.
Weatley to go bananas on the ARC and push to have it scraped.

Interesting point BT raised. Sydney have a lot of left footers in their team.
Same drafting decision Hawks made when rebuilding their list when Clarko started coaching

My little fella is just in the first years of playing sport. Has done a bit of little tackers tennis, soccer, little aths and basketball. Haven’t actually taken him to Auskick. Just playing muck around with each other is his only exposure to Aussie Rules.

He is fairly right hand and right foot dominant (when playing soccer, tennis, writing etc), so I think he is a rightie. But for some reason the action of dropping a ball onto his boot to kick (like we do in footy) it feels awkward to him on his normal side. So prefers to drop it on the left. Perhaps I keep him doing that. Seems it’s generally quite an advantage. :)

In actual fact, in soccer he generally kicks with the right, but his left isn’t really any less powerful, and looks not really too much less natural. I don’t think he is genuinely ambidextrous. But there is some cross dominance there.

Maybe but if you break it down
We lost on Thursday night due to some of the worse kicking I've seen us produce in more then 5 yrs.
It was horrible

This is the difference between their pressure game & ours of yesteryear.
They have the disposal skills to complement the pressure which the game's current incarnation requires.
Nah all skinny fast pricks.
They play short, Mark, handball, bullet past for the recieve and hit up really really well.
We need runners.
Our best players if you notice this year have been the ones that continue to run out games, Rioli Flappers Pickett and Baker.
We need to get back our pick 19 off Geelong and get that kid Holmes to the club.
He is the prototype of the 2022 footballer.
Good mark, quick and runs all day
I can't believe we helped Geelong pick him up.
While we stare at Collier Dawkins & Dow

Loved watching the Dees implode last night. Mouthy smart arses.
Same here. It's been my campaign all season. I'll back up the Paddle Pops to maybe win next week. SEN mentioned 4 or 5 injuries where Alan Richo cliches "they'll be right for next week"...but who really knows espeically risking Petracca hair-line fracture in the leg, and Harmes should get 1 week for high contact.

No team in the league more prone to believing their own press. Things aligned for them last year, but they’re back to being Egobourne now.
Apart from maybe the first month. Looked vulnerable all season. Played their premiership season in April. Certainly didn’t look world beaters after the initial surge.

BREAKING NEWS

Tom Browne reports......

"It comes to me from a reliable source, inside the 4 walls, close to all party's involved.......that, at the conclusion of last night's match, as the Melbourne playing group were sitting down to hear from their coach, an extremely agitated Mark 'Chocco' Williams burst into the room and made a beeline for Jake Melksham ..... his Demon snow scalf wrapped tightly around his neck with one end held aloft, screaming .....

Steven May...YOU WE'RE RIGHT!"

More to come.....
