Round 1 (2022) - other games

Tom Phillips just got pinged a 50 metre penalty for manning the mark but coming from behind the mark to do it. So it seems he’s mean to run a wide arc from behind the the guy about to kick the ball around the front and then run in from the front.

yeah, makes sense….
Soldo got penalised for the exact same thing. Horrible rule. As Dermie said it hasn’t been a rule for 120 years of football but they decide it’s a good thing to bring in.

Yep. But didn’t Soldo run in from the side?

So, basically, looking at that Phillips decision, you have to let the player play on with a paddock in front of them. You can not stand the mark ….you just have to run 10m wide of them and let the opposition play on with a heap of space in front of them. That’s the most you’re allowed to do.

Phillips actually went wide of him anyway but still got pinged.

That’s it. Makes zero sense.

Also the statue rule only seems to apply to us. Edwards got pinged for twitching a toe in the mark after STAND had been called on Thursday night. Saw 2 instances in the Hawks v Roos where the player clearly moved after STAND was called and nothing from the umpire.

I know Hawks are in a different phase to us but if they can debut MacDonald then we can do the same with Sonsie.

Yeah, I’m seeing more players just wandering on the mark, not moving huge distances but shuffling side to side, movement that previously were penalised.

Zeibell just keeps getting outmarked by whoever he is on. Commentators suggesting CCJ should go to CHB.

Noble seems like a poor gameday coach. Goldstein should have been moved back into the defensive half. He does that regularly when playing in the ruck and does it well (similarly to how Nank does it). North should have beaten Hawks comfortably today, I reckon the Hawks are the worst team in the comp this year and should be winning the spoon. They have some good up and comers, but they are not good enough across the park. The fact that North fans have lauded their midfield all summer, and they are not dominating against the worst team in the comp is telling.

Seems there’s a completely different interpretation of dissent (Hardwick) and holding the ball (Nash tackle) compared to our game. How am I not surprised.
Crazy to expect consistency!

Although we shouldn't forget no one on PRE understands the rules properly.......actually I.'m not sure anyone including the umps understand the rules properly.

In the last instance of play Goldstein clearly moved on the mark.... nuffing, zilch, nada!

It appears if our blokes let rip a nervous fart whilst standing like a *smile* statue and a zephyr of breeze from said fart causes a fluttering of the shorts...... "50 metre penalty. ....... ohh how dare you.....50 again for the smell"!

The game is so hard to umpire now & with 3 umpires per game there's bound to be wide variation of interpretation.
one thing that remains consistent though is that we get reamed.
