Doesn't seem too plausible to me. Why can't Nahas go up the ground if King isn't playing?
because we always want to have a small forward close to goal. When king is not in the team nahas stays much closer to goal but with him there they rotate and the other one pushes up the field more.
It's just an observation.

I prefer Nahas closer to goal only because he isn't Martin or King but doesn't seem to know it. He gets caught with the ball because he tries to run the lines and break tackles but isn't strong enough in the legs. He can use his creativity and self-belief to score from unlikely positions but it lets him down in heavy traffic, IMO.

I used to think that as well Knighter but he changed my mind by playing so well up the field last year. We haven't seen it this season so far apart from the Port game.

Yes but why is this only possible if King is playing? Are you saying there aren't any other players who can play up the ground? Who was playing King's role when he was out of the team?

He injects that run and dare at times when we seem flat. I guess so far this year we haven't really been too flat so haven't needed his spark as much.

The game where he was a sub (Collingwood?) I thought he injected a bit of life when he came on, in a game which was very much stop, start with not much run, but it was all over by then.

I love Nahas's defensive pressure in the forward line. More than 5 tackles a game in his last 3. On Saturday a couple of brilliant tackles helped turnover the ball and give us scoring opportunities. His confidence seems to be growing. I actually love it when he takes the game on, to me that is when he is most dangerous.

What I mean by this.....When watching AFL/VFL footy in the 1980's and 90's as a really little kid, I can still remember being in awe of how nearly all players seemed to be able to kick on both feet (and I remember my father emphasising to me this fact).

Not just you: in primary school in the mid-70s my peer group all emphasised the importance of kicking with the wrong foot. These days I'm straighter by hand and foot on my non-preferred side, though only about 70% in terms of kicking distance.

Man you gotta work on your preferred side.

Of course it's possible but it's just my observation that when King is not playing Nahas plays very much as a stay at home forward pocket. I am not saying noone can do it. Even when maric played he was played a lot between wing and half forward with Nahas closer to goal.

Thought he was poor tonight, decision making, tackling and pressure not his best game. Essendon monstered him for sure and saw him as a weak point - anyone else has this view?

Yeah. Sloppy hands under pressure. He tries hard enough, but what we're seeing now is all he has IMO.

Seems to be inordinately popular with our supporters, they go slightly nuts whenever he goes near it.

have always thought he was sloppy and fumbly. he and jake king are definately not the answer for our small forward positions long term.

small forward are supposed to fast and skillfull.

Bingo!!

He was not our worst small forward last night. If he wore a Geelong jumper he would twice as many frees. At this stage his work rate is fine and we have no one to replace him.

That kick to the man on the mark when he was 25m out from goal summed up how he deals with pressure.
Not the only one to fail under intense stress but fail he did.
Don't think he could deal with finals therefore start looking for someone else

I was very unhappy with how often he fell over last night.
Must have happened 5-6 times.
He's a decent player IMO and clearly our best small forward.
He'll get better too, only 22.

Yep, drove me nuts. Almost as if he was wearing the wrong boots...fell over or went to ground way too often, some at very crucial times.

Big gap between his best and worst...needs more consistency. Can't have both him and Kingy having down days. If little Maric plays well today, he should come into the side, probably for King.

That short pass to the the man on the mark should have been demoralising but I think we ended up jagging a goal. If he'd kicked that we'd have had a higher opinion of his game. I thought he gave us some bite and worked pretty hard.
