Rio Olympics

Without question Bolt has to be in the very top echilon of sports people, great showman but not the arrogance of many other greats.

Bruce is at his annoying best at these Olympics. He must have taken up Geneology as a hobby because he is talking about everybody's family history incessantly. Poor old Tamsyn Lewis has no idea how to respond to his rants.

Elmira El Sahara, the Wooooorld chaaaaampion, the woooooorld record holder, steps up. Her mother won goooooold in this event in Barcelona, her sister made the final in London, her brother was a Merathon runner of note.

Her father was a Wrestler, her uncle a boxer, her cousin competed in the High Jump in Beijing, her auntie was an extra in Chariots of Fire, the Eric Liddell story.

Bruce, I think she just came fourth.

What did she say Riddles? I read that Cambage was excellent again.
IMHO Cambage and the coach cost us the game. She kept coming to the top of the key and team mates kept passing it around outside until they turned it over. Should have parked her under the ring and made the others drive to the basket. It was classic Hardwick. Play Jack 90 out from goal and chip it around half back.

Modern Pentathlon, now that's what the Olmpics are all a bout :clap :clap :clap

Awesome performance

Sure thing. That was a very welcome surprise.

Shocking start by the Boomers. I hope they work themselves into it now. We seem to be bullied thus far.

Greatest sprint athlete of all time without a doubt, if not the greatest athlete overall.

Yep fantastic and to me really shows the folly of how sports are funded in general now in Aust with the biggest sports getting the greatest slice of funding. IMO we need t revert back to a more egalitarian model.

Typical of over hyped Aussie teams in the past. They have just choked on the big stage.

Hard to argue. It looks like you also support an English team that does the same ;D. (I support the same team).

It was. We've never been all that good at it. The only modern pentathlete I can really remember is that Alex Watson guy who got done for excessive caffeine.

Better than Carl Lewis, although the latter could jump a bit.

But check out Jesse Owens. Sporting tragedy that he could not back up in 40 or 44.

Usain is a beacon of light on a tarnished sporting landscape. And he seems like a decent bloke.

It is. Nothing wrong with admiring the human form.

Bet that's what the young men on the afore-mentioned (thankfully now banned) website said too.

Admire, ok. Woof, want to bang etc...nup.

Boomers join the list of Australian teams to flop, absolutely smashed by Serbia in the semifinal this morning.

Playoff against Spain for the Bronze.

Yep. The Boomers won't get within 15 points of Spain. Mentally shot.

No, no, skybeau. I understand and share your concerns over the horrendous behaviour exhibited towards women and girls by some. That website was a disgrace. But you're wrong here. This has nothing to do with that. These are not unaware schoolgirls being upskirted, nothing like it at all. Not even close. The only similarity is they are females having their photo taken. Do you want them to compete in a hijab? They could if they wanted to, or even baggy shorts. They seem comfortable in their butt-hugging shorts though, and why wouldn't they? They look great.

Women like looking great. They like being (appropriately) appreciated when they look great. I'm not cat-calling or wolf-whistling someone on the street. I'm making light-hearted comments on a web forum.

The way to stop the disgraceful treatment of girls and women is not to deny our desire for them. It's to educate our boys on how to express and seek to satisfy that desire with respect.

What kind of a sterile world would it be if we denied our sexuality? 'Woof' is harmless. 'Want to bang' was a joke at your earnest but misguided expense. (Not that I don't want to. I want to have sex with every attractive woman I see. My genes demand it. I don't though, because I can't. They let you know when you can.)

I have sisters, aunts, cousins and dozens of female friends. I've been intimate with the odd one or two. I'm a lover of women, not just for their bodies and faces, but their hearts, minds and souls. Women are the tits. Most of them think I'm ok too. I treat them all with respect yet still manage to tell them when they look beautiful.

Chill out and be happy for New Zealand's Eliza McCarthy, who came third in the pole vault this morning. A fantastic achievement by the 19-year-old daughter of a high jumper and a gymnast.

Australia's Alana Boyd (daughter of two Olympians) came fourth, but she's not as good-looking. :sarcasm

Incidentally, my father, my role model for how to treat women, who told my mother every day for 40+ years that she was the most beautiful woman on Earth, who charms yet respects every woman he meets, also passed on to me a love of athletics. He was a big fan of the champion Russian pole vaulter Yelena Isinbayeva.

Pathetic effort, one begins to wonder is there something in our national character that we fail so often under pressure in all sports.

.......

Would he support perverts leering at photos of her and publicly discussing her shagability? Would he show photos of other women to her and tell her, and plenty of others listening, that he'd like to bang them? Would he like photos of his daughters discussed as though they exist for some stranger's sexual gratification? It seems it's not an ideal "role model of how to treat women" or the lessons went amiss somewhere along the way.

Our chef de mission Kitty Chiller represent Australia in Sydney when first introduced for women. She was a world champ in 1980-90s but past her best by Sydney
