A sad day indeed. Thanks for the memories Richo.

Like Leysy I wonder what affect his staying on on that fateful day had.

I have been extremely critical of some of you past posts (not always communicated - but one response in particular that I regret). But that is the best tribute that I have read today. And one of the best posts I have ever read.

Thank you for everything you have done and given to the club, i love richo. You will never be forgotten. All the best in what ever you do in the future. A TRUE TIGER CHAMPION. It was a honour to watch you give your all. DYER,HART,BARTLETT,BOURKE,RICHARDSON. rest now richo, you are our legend.

Thanks Otis.

I think you are right re memberships. We look like an army without a general without Richo holding the flag and the many who joined last year and the many more who would have joined in anticipation of Richo's last year, wont eventuate. However through adversity great men are made and the current crop of players who were priviledged enough to grace the field with Richo hopefully take on board and learn from what he has provided as a player and somehow transpose that on the field through their own game. I know wishful thinking, but stranger things have happened.

:'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(
No words to describe this. Just found out and I'm a wreck. Richo Man got me through all the tough times. He has been my number one sporting idol for more than half my life, and now he is gone.

Thanks Richo, a true Tiger Legend.

completely gutted by this, he has been Richmond personified for much of our recent history

he was what kept us keeping the faith, and I know like many others I thank him for everything he gave us

and for those using this time to boost their own egos, or bag the great man, please move to another thread.

It's a sad, sad day for me... he is a legend of our club and the footy will not be the same without him!

OMFG!!! I just watched sports tonight on 10 and got the shock of my life. I didn't know. Holy sh!t.

I am so shocked. Not because he is retiring, we all knew it was coming sooner rather than later, but because from all reports it sounded like he was ok and had 1 more year in him.

I just feel so empty. And I feel sad for Richo. The way he has retired just sums up his career. He just seemed to never really have a lot of luck. Injuries, umpires, and never able to enjoy team success and get some reward for his efforts.

The thing I am happy for Richo though is the love. Not just the love from us, but from all football people. In the last few years I have been really happy the way everyone just seems to love Richo. Its like people started to relise just how good for the game players like Richo are, and his personality and passion won people over. People who hated him started to say " hey he is a good bloke and he loves the game, and he has been a great player ".

Sure he made a donkey of himself a few times, but overall he was a great champion and he is a credit to himself, our club and the game. His bad days were not as regular as people make out, and it is the overall package the made us love him.

What I loved about him the most was his emotion and passion. When Richo was angry or upset, I was always as upset as he was. Whether it be another umpire, or another sh!t kick from some dud team mate the fell about 10 meters short of his lead, I would feel as frustrated as he was. I liked that when Richmond were having another sh!t day, that Richo was as upset about it as me.

Finally on a positive, it does make this new Richmond era feel very real now. A lot of players gone, many big names, but now with Richo gone it is like a new club. We really are like a new club now. It really feels like we are starting again. Hopefully in a few years we will look back on this time as the time that the old Richmond was left behind and a new successful Richmond we all are desperately hoping for has started.

Lastly I personally feel very sad and reflective. I am still in a bit of shock about the news. I just feel sorry for players like Richo and Knights and Campbell that they played at our great club, but were just there at the wrong time and just didn't get much success. It just reminds me what a waist the last 27 years have been. That our great club has been the worst performed club for too long and at the moment it is not a great club. I just hope this summer is the start of our club becoming a great club again so our next champions and next heros can play in finals and grand finals.

cheers. Richo, I love you man.

I was screaming at the TV during the Sydney game to take him off

I don't know for sure that game finished his career but here is what I feel like doing this to the person who let him go back on http://www.genspot.com/video-11796/gabriel-gonzales-razbije-cro-cop-a.aspx

Was told at work and my Jaw dropped.Got heckled by my workmates that i was is Mourning. And you know they were right.I just couldn,t believe it and i guess like most on here won,t until the Rnd 1 next year when we look through the footy record and the #12 won,t be listed at all.Frankly Richo you are an absolute legend of not only the RFC but the AFL.The way you conducted yourself on the ground and moreso off it.
If anyone player at the RFC deserved success it was the Big lug.
Lets hope one day the RFC repays your dedication and above all your loyalty by errecting a statue right next to the Great Jack Dyer...You won,t be out of place Big fella.

Thank You Richo for everything!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bit harsh.

He thought he was right, but wasn't.

He thought he was right to come back at Coburg, but wasn't

He thought he could do another pre season and play another year, but he can't.

It's just his time. He is the oldest player in the AFL. He has had more than his share of injuries. His mind says yes, but the body says no. It's just his time.

What caused the injury to increase Jack?

Going back on against North & the following week against Sydney.

Our staff at the time massively enhanced his injury. No question.

Good point.

I haven't even thought of a send off as yet.

What a shame it ended this way. We were all dreaming of a big game at the G towards the end of next season as the day we would say goodbye. 2010 is obviously a building year, but it was also a last year to enjoy and love Richo one more time. Now we can only watch the kids and hope we are building for the future.

I guess round 1 will have to be the send off. A lap in the back of a car in not quite the same as a farewell game, but it will have to do. Should at least make sure we get a huge crowd to round 1 and a big pay day too.

The AFL has announced a spot will be open for Richo to go around the G on Grand Final day next year. :clap :clap

calm down. *smile*. pick on someone else.

I don't want to talk about this now.

I want to remember the good things about Richo, not how it ended.

OK. reckon You dont want leysy to mention that Carlton are the one's laughing at Richo's retirement then.

Seeing as we agreed to split the gate takings from Rd 1.
