But now it's time to concentrate on other things in life. Richmond will always be a part of it, but it won't have control over my emotions that it once did.

2017 was no expectation, full delivery. The build up of possibility to realisation at the end still leaves me in disbelief. The waking of the sleeping giant that everyone spoke about actually came to be - and much, much bigger than anyone could have realistically predicted. The ‘new’ MCG had never seen anything like it. Other big teams could only look on in awe and pretend they are as big when in full flight. I don’t care about the dubious crowd number of 2018. 2017 was the business.
This year was like a weight off my shoulders. Unshackled and free just to go and watch and enjoy. And be rewarded with a back up year that said 2017 was no fluke. The footy world in a spin scrambling to change this impossibility.
One thing I am different about is where I direct my energies. Much less hate and resentment. I revel in the victory of my team and not in the misery of the team that I want to see lose. If we lose, I’m ok. Because my team finally gave back in the biggest way possible. Don’t get me wrong - I still want to win every grand final. But to see my team going about things in a way that I can hold my head up is the best thing.
And here’s the difference I found with pie supporters this year - they are so self loathing even when winning. They are the first fans to cry victim and the first fans to gloat in your face. Their happiness doesn’t come so much from their team winning alone - their happiness is intrinsically linked with the other team’s misery. They cannot be happy without knowing the other fans are hurting. THAT’S what I DON’T want to be. I don’t like seeing other teams win, but I’m not going to obsess over it like a Mudpie.
My team has given me a positive vibe about going to the footy at last and I love ‘em for it.
Don't do many interstate games anymore but I got to see every melbourne game so 18-1taztiger4 said:I was fortunate enough to get to all our games this year, 19 wins & 5 losses

Decided not to go to watch the Suns game and we won. Realised I was the jinx!!

Was at Colonial, Docklands, Telstra, Etihad, Marvel Stadium rofl) last night in my RFC wet weather jacket (due to Melbourne's cold, windy weather) for the Derby, Victory v City.
(Victory got "shafted" by the Ref/VAR just quietly but that's a different issue)
The amount of cheers and well wishes I got was amazing.
Not one person said why are you wearing that?
It's like we are still kings of the jungle!
(and we remain Victorian reigning Premiers, last Vic side to win anyway!).
So continue wearing your colors with pride people, all through the summer and into 2019.
And warn your other side barracking friends:
"There is a Lynch Mob coming in 2019, take cover!" ;D
Dont Argue said:You're lucky. My 15 son was at the game with a bunch of mates for a birthday and one of the boys wearing a Victory top was called a F#ing loser C##t by a drunk City supporter who apparently was a middle aged man with his own sons in tow. Wouldn't happen at an AFL match and know what I would have done if I was there. The supporters are why I don't follow the sport.

The warm fuzzy feeling from winning the flag has blossomed into pride and peace of mind.
When finals was a lock in 18, it put all the muppets who said we would do a dog's to bed. When we finished minor premieres it put all those haters who said we where the worst list to win a flag back in their box. We avoided out in straight sets which would have left us with egg on our face.
I hoped we would finish of a very good year with the flag.
However was very conscious of the fact, that once you play games that are sudden death, it is 50/50 each time you play. I was gutted that the pies blew us away. But them losing in the last minute of the GF was joyful enough to be philosophical about no BB.
There is always lynch, another season of ticking of the wins towards another finals appearance and shot at the flag to look forward to in 2019
