Rich V Melb - Saturday, March 4, 4.10pm AEDT, Casey Fields

Not to read too much into preseason form but I reckon Melbourne might be on a similar path to us in 2018/19.

They've taken the Geelong tactic with Stanley to release their intercept markers and have added a forward dimension as well. Hunter is an absolute steal and their midfield is still in peak years.

Going to be right there I reckon.
I still wonder about their infinite salary cap.....but let's see if they can match us by winning the flag this year. However, seeing them at prime condition this early looks like another big boo-boo as last season.

Apparently they’ve peaked. :ROFLMAO:

Foward entries and foward pressure was terrible
really need to make the most out of the entries and capitalise on our opportunities

Our transition and scoring from intercepts was also very poor

Hopefully the cobwebs have been blown out

That's from a bloke that hasn't tasted the ultimate reward.
We played like shitt.
There was no positives
Cumberland thinks he is Dermott Brereton.
Cotchin isn't a Castagna or Bulter.
Lynch looked like his foot fell off during the summer.
Grimes was dreaming what type if grapes will he have in October.
Dow finally woke up.
Sampson marked everything but kicked like a Donkey.
Our coach instead of coaching was at Disneyland with Griffens.
If I see Teague on TV again with a RFC top on, I going straight to the club.
This needs board sackings.
Peggy hasn't even closed the door on the way out and we are in crisis.
Do you reckon the Ferret and Bryan Wood will challenge again??

Good to see Zips has started the football season his usual calm, non emotional self.

Reckon we should load up at the AGM one year and get Zips in as President, just for the laughs.

Imagine waking up today to the news reports.

"In a shock move on the eve of the season, Richmond has today delisted 26 players and sacked it's entire coaching and conditioning teams'.

"In a statement the club said 'They are all massive duds, and the umpires and the AFL can go and get *smile*'.

Don't mind Tarrant, but against Melbourne - Gawn and Brodie are a long way up (Tarrant 196 which surprised me he appears short on the TV - must be relative to the players he plays on, Gawn 209, Grundy only 202). He might be able to slow down Grundy but Gawn probably needs a different body.
Don't care about the neutralise debate - if you can't win the head to head then neutralising is just where your team is at for that match-up and is the next best outcome.

Samson Ryan is going to get a bath playing on Gawn. But at 206 to Nank's 199 still could be the right choice - rubber duck and all.

Sounds like a nightmare you had.

Going long along the same boundary and kicking to packs seems to be our game plan whilst Melbourne kicked at angles and constantly had outlets.
Not sure what we’ve been working on as I saw absolute no system to our forward entries.
If it wasn’t for Baker and Taranto, we would have been embarrassed much further.
I don’t worry about score lines but I’ve got no idea what our system actually is. Our lack of foot skills prohibit a precision game but the new rules have destroyed our pressure/Kaos brand. We look caught somewhere in between
Our game plan won't be to kick down the line but good defensive teams like Melbourne close off the 45 forcing it. When we were at our best we wouldnt allow other teams to play their game plans either as our defensive structures were so good.

folks have mentioned our forward line and I think we'll nut that puzzle out.

what worried me about yesterday was the continued flakiness of the back six / seven. they just haven't looked great since 2020.
Thats cos a bloke named Astbury is no longer there, and even moreso the midfield is not winning and controlling the ebb and flow of the footy. anymore.

Add to that "and even though with delisting that number of players, we will finish last, we don't want the number 1 pick as we will only stuff it up. We will draft 26 players from the rookie draft".

How long are we going to wait?
It's been 3 long years in the wilderness

Did you even watch us last year?? Tarrant took the best forward in every match!!

PM you seem to resent the fact that I disagree with your point of view.
As you arr, get older you will find that people will sometimes do that.

We are hearing each other and I say he is not up to it. As a finals player against tall forwards who have put, or can put, their team into the top 4, No.

I am not comfortable with conversation that amounts to a further criticism of our player. He is apparently in danger of being unavailable through injury.
Hope he is back soon and does well.

As disappointing as yesterday was the coaching staff have far from settled on their line up. The inclusions of Hopper and Tarranto has resulted in them trying to find the right mix for the players they have replaced. Players like Cotchin, Short, and to a lesser extent Martin and Bolton have all been pushed out as our starting mids. We are still very much tinkering on where to put of them.

Then you have locks in Pickett, Tarrant and potentially Graham not playing. Guaranteed if these guys are fit they are lining up in Round 1.

Plus we have the second ruck conundrum.

I am still expecting a very different look to how we line up and play in Round 1.

Spot on. Although I don’t think Tarrant is a lock. Far from it in fact.

Who replaces him? I am a Young fan but he doesn’t play ahead of Tarrant this early.
Tarrant isn’t the future. He’s a break glass in case of emergency. He’s injured and 34 in a few weeks time.

Miller and Young will get opportunities before him.

McQualter on our lack of forward pressure.

“They (Melbourne) are a really well organised team,” he said. “Today they just transitioned the ball way too easily, especially from the back half.

“That’s the biggest area of concern for us … they moved the ball super.

“To score six goals from D50 is almost unheard of … it was a credit to them.

“We will go away and learn some lessons.”

I think Miller is last in the pecking order. Hasn’t featured in both senior practice matches.

Well, I think he started on the ground in the one v Norf and was ok-ish in that, so I’m not sure about that. He’s also been a focal point in practice sims albeit up forward.
