Retire / Trade / Delist

Hard pass on Stocker. He is a nothing player. Neither quick, skilled, athletic or a ball magnet. Not sure what Carlton thought they were getting.
Unfortunately reminds me of Martyn. Good ordinary player but nothing outstanding to suggest an AFL skillset

But SOS was getting all the accolades that night like he picked Chris Judd.
Close your eyes he looks & playa like Tim fleming. A plastic unskilled tough guy
Shocking kick.
Keep away keep Clear

RCD and Stack tradeable.
Soldo is still our best insurance for an aging Nank.
Martyn and Aarts delist.
Our B and F Shorty is now in no man's land since being swapped to midfield.
Bakes....not sure where he is best. Needs to settle down in defence imho.
Do we go with 3 small defenders? Maybe rotate through the bench.
If we boost the midfield, we then need to find a small forward with the ability of Daniel to complement MJ and Noah.
Now where on earth can we find a triple premiership small forward with the ability of Daniel? We could have used such a player in the last quarter against the Lions.......

Yep. Keep getting back to Daniel, no matter which way I look at it. Every time he has gone near the goals this year something happened. It's like playing Eddie Betts in the back pocket!

My dream was to start Daniel on the forward line in the last quarter of several games this year and they turned into bloody nightmares with lesser quality small forwards consistently stuffing things up.
Daniel has been really, really good this year but our small forwards have been woeful.

I don't like to say I told you so, but, I told you so.

(PS Daniel has been my favourite player for most of his career.)

Daniel is our best small defender though. He won't be going back to the forward line. Bakes looks lost forward so need to stay back.

I tried to do a best 22 next year if we get Hopper and Taranto, and I couldn't actually find a spot for Shorty, so agree he's in no mans land right now.

It's a tough one. I love the idea of Dan Rioli back in the forward line, and we have too many small defenders. But he has been so good as a running half back.

Difficult.

DS
I’d leave Rioli back as he can defend as well as attack. Stack is the missing piece if he can get properly fit.

Me too - Short, Ross and Graham are all lineball selections if we take those two.

Buying in a couple of seasoned mids should get our clearance game up and running again and would have the added advantage of ensuring our young mids have to work and improve that little bit more to ensure they have an AFL career at the Tigers To me it would be a win win to see Ross, Sonsie, Ralphsmith etc take their game to another level whilst learning from the masters of the art.

What kind of trade gets Tarranto and Hopper across the line? Frankly, I can’t see how the Tigers get both done. Thoughts?

I know its not an exact science but its a guide - the points system.

Similar trades are probably Prestia and Cerra.

Prestia was almost 24 when he was traded for Pick 6 and a swap of 2nds. I don't think at the time anyone expected us to win the premiership in 2017 but would likely bounce back into finals, so I used Pick 30 swapped for Pick 24. Value of those points was 1595 or around Pick 8.

Cerra was almost 23 when he was traded for Pick 6 and a future 3rd, I think people thought they would be around the edge of finals so I'll use their exact Pick 46. Value of that trade was 2082 (or around Pick 4). I personally feel this was probably overs, but also accounting for Cerra being a year younger than Prestia.

We have Taranto thats nearly 25 and Hopper will be about 26 when next season starts, so both should depreciate in value from the Prestia / Cerra deals.

Taranto probably similar value to Dion in terms of the player but slight depreciation due to age. Dion was traded for essentially Pick 8, so lets say around Pick 10 is fair.
Hopper isn't as good IMO as Dion and doesn't have the flexibility that Taranto has, and is another year older so IMO again depreciated. I think he's worth around Pick 15 personally.

Pick 10 + Pick 15 in terms of the points system is around 2,507 points.

Out Pick 12, 19 and next years 1st (lets assume min value at pick 18) amounts to 3,201. As out picks are lower than their value, then this balances some of this out, due to value of pick offered (obviously a big difference between a top 10 and a 12-15 pick).

I personally can't see us paying more than 12, 19 and a future 1st. I'd think we'd get something back in that deal. Maybe the 2 late 50's pick we will get back.

No way we give up 2 1sts for Taranto and a top 10 for Hopper. What precedent is that backed up by? Nothing.

Herald sun footy podcast. Sam Landsberger did say Hopper and Taranto will come to Richmond and Geelong has accepted they have missed out on Hopper.

Why would another club want to trade for players that aren't good enough to get a game for us?

Exactly. You have to give up something to get something, so in our case that has to be draft picks, or players who get senior games at least some of the time.

You'd have to put Ross, Graham and Short into the tradeable category.
