Reece Conca - so long and thanks for all the fish

Was it only a rolled ankle as reported?, (being Reece he is unlikely to be that lucky), if so he may not miss any footy as a VFL bye next week anyway and unlikely to have been named against Essendon so soon.
I didn't notice the incident myself. I expected him only to play a half of footy in 1st game back and surprised he lined up in the 3rd quarter.

Most likely didn’t won’t too much pressure on the recovering ankle.
Over did it and done the good one.

Same law as “thou who cracks in hardest is least likely to get hurt”. (Which Reece is great at btw and never gets hurt from contests)

Worry about injuries or adjust your body and you’ll get injured. Up to the psychs to fix this one.

Re: Reece "The Centurion" Conca

Only a rolled ankle. Won’t make any difference to him with next week being a bye week at VFL level. At this stage looks like a very handy player to bring in if there is any injuries. Aside from that or a sudden drop in form from one of our mids I can’t really see him making it back. Higgins has cemented that spot.

Butters is the one I really want back in.

Re: Reece "The Centurion" Conca

i reckon he would have been a chance to come back next week. (maybe he still is.) that would have given him 2 weeks at AFL level before the finals.
his injury might rule that chance out, and perhaps the game BEllis played yesterday, would have made it hard to drop him.

Yeah agree - BEllis was only just holding his spot but the competition for spots makes it impossible for a player like him to cruise - he did alright yesterday.

Conca is up against it and it’s a pity but we won’t and don’t need to play injured or underdone players in the finals

only saw the highlights, for a first game back after a significant injury, looked the goods. I know it was the seconds but looked a cut above, relaxed and doing all his usual moves.

generally speaking a rolled ankle is nothing.

Re: Reece "The Centurion" Conca

Reece appears to be a 'nearly man' whose career had so much promise but cruelled by injuries. Still Astbury and Grimes managed to overcome their problems so there is hope for Reece

Re: Reece "The Centurion" Conca

Taking injury-prone players into a finals game is a legitimate risk. Besides, with higlet in there and graham/Prestia back he is just outside best 22 anyway.

Re: Reece "The Centurion" Conca

Pushing uphill now to make the team. Best spot is inside. Who inside do we drop?

If fit his a very handy defensive mid to have waiting in the wings if needed in the heat of September

That's it.
Earlier in the season he was playing well enough to keep other good blokes out of the team but now they are playing well enough to keep even a fit Reece out.
That's just the way it happens - though from RC's point of view this is more a case of *smile* happens.
Hopefully he does get fit enough to be in contention.

Sure but as I asked, who does he replace? We have Graham as a defensive mid. Higlett? Or do we drop a KMac or Ellis and push a midfielder out wide?

Re: Reece "The Centurion" Conca

Other than an injury his best chance is that he is fit enough to play this week, and they either drop BEllis, or 'rest' someone.

If he could get in the team, i reckon Higgins would be dropped before Conca, but i dont know they would drop Higgins to bring Conca in.

Re: Reece "The Centurion" Conca

Would I be right in saying he has some history of taking quite a few games to get going again after injury?

Seem to remember it that way , but happy to be told that’s wrong.

They will go with continuity like last year. If you're in the senior team the next fortnight, you're going to be hard to displace.

But yeah, Reecy C gets fit, and the MC will have a very difficult decision between

Higlet, Reecy and probably Brando and Kmac.

But like I said, they will take no risks and place a premium on continuity and momentum.

which works against Reecy.

But yeah, he plays VFL finals and we have one helluva tough contested experienced player in reserve.

Depends which injury. After the foot last season he took a while. Last week he looked like a seasoned senior player having a run for match fitness in the seconds, a cut above.

Re: Reece "The Centurion" Conca

Conca will be pushing hard, doing everything in his power to play finals.
If he stays fit he may be in with a shot.
Otherwise, he will be supporting and encouraging his team mates to the hilt, urging them to strive hard for ultimate glory.
