Reece Conca - so long and thanks for all the fish

David King loves this bloke (as I do). King said the other night Concs would be our 2nd best mid.

If he becomes number our number 2, our midfield would be genuinely elite.

Ideally Conca and Vlaustin become our genuine insiders, which would give us the luxury of Cotchin playing ahead of the contest. If Deledio and Martin continue to run behind the contest we have genuine midfield firepower.

Add the second stringers like Foley, Edwards, Ellis, Grigg and Jackson and we should be able to match anyone in 2015. I would still love a couple of outside jets to be added to the rotation though.

Good times ahead.

King does rate him very highly. He's really starting to deliver on the promise shown and show why we took him as early in the draft as we did.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

Doing well as inside mid nope lets suddenly play him as a defender. Clearly not his go and out pointed easily in a couple marking contests. Hopefully Hardwick learns from this.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

Yeah was weird so see him spend that much time on Bennell in the back line. Always going to be up against it, he's an inside mid pure and simple. Can do a job of half back but any opposition coach will drag him to the back 50.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

Reecey was in the backline for so long today because he was tagging Bennell. Bluey McKenna played a pretty smart hand in pushing Bennell forward to expose Reece deep. It backfired a little in that Bennell didn't have as much of it as he usually would but Conca did look out of place a few times in the backline. It didn't hurt us today, but hopefully Reece can improve that side of his game over the next 7 weeks so he doesn't get found out in that fashion.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

I believe Conca will be a good player for RFC over the years.
And I agree with the other posters, I don't think he has the wherewithal at the moment to deal with roles in the backline particularly if he is dragged deep.
Dimma was obviously trying something different today with Concs.

It was McKenna pushing Bennell deep to take Conca out of his comfort zone.

Thought he played ok but he isn't the sort of player that would stand up under finals pressure...neither is Rance and Grigg.

Still only 20 and has made progress this year, even if he was ordinary today.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

Conca's not a defender; that's where he was exposed today. He's a get-ball type and it was the wrong call to have him on Bennell. (I would have put Lids on him, although I didn't mind Lids going to Gablett first-up.) If not Lids, I think Ellis should have got Bennell.

It robbed us of Conca in the middle as well, and especially early they chopped us up there.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

Close to useless, and not just tonight. Still can't quite see what others seem to see in him. His kicking is not elite and he really hasn't come on like he should've. Still can't believe we didn't select Heppell!

Yep, TM, Heppell would have been a handy get.
But I'm not giving up on Concs yet. I believe he will be very handy for the Tigers in the next few years.
