Pick 63, 2017 Ben Miller - Welcome to Tigerland.

The Phantom ....Machine Gun Benny.

Lets hope he steps it up next year.
He did get close towards the end of the year.
Dimma did talk him up but was that to give confidence to the kid, or that we had no other tall option to go too as Chol was poor, Soldo injured and CJ suspended. ??

Make or break year next year for him.

Was Baker for example paid less than Cumberland?

Just get rid of the rookie list. The cat B makes sense but the other doesn't.
Clubs are rorting the system but that’s what the AFL have given the clubs to work with.

For us it’s been a goldmine.

We have used it to advantage us.

Now with the new rule for next year clubs will use the system more.

Unfortunately this is what COVID brought on sport , the world and our lives.

How is minimum key when you can pay whatever amount you want?

Minimum term is only 1 year compared to 2 years when you draft them to the main list. Thats the key difference other than $80k being banked outside the TPP.

Its a pretty generous concession if you go with the minimum on the main list and then take 8 rookies. 8 * $80k per year is $640k that is treated outside of the TPP.

In terms of rookie list benefit is 1 year deals and 640k not counted in the TPP.
Why wouldnt they simply extend the main list, increase the TPP and allow players picked after the 3rd round to be given a one year deal?
Keeps it simple and all players equal on the list.
Of course the real benefit is that rookie is used in American sports, which makes the AFL feel important

Been relegated to the rookie list, fair enough. Still think he’s lucky. It’s not an easily quantifiable list but I can’t think of too many players that spent 3 years on an AFL senior list without cracking it for a senior game, then get rookie listed that then go on to a successful AFL career.
David Gourdis 2.0?

Or pay them the same and have part of the deal outside the salary cap. Look at what Carlton have done. They are not paying Betts any less.
Yeah fair call. It is like being shifted to the back pocket - you know the next move will be out the door.

By all reports Miller came on a bit in 2020 but it's a shame we didn't see him in the vfl. He was emergency a couple of times

last chance saloon for him

Todd Elton did'nt have the best development team in the land behind him nor was he trying to break into a premiership squad.

Not saying he would of been a success but not comparable IMO.
Todd was on the list in ‘17 (and played 6 games that season) when we won a flag so maybe he did have the best development team behind him.
