Our 2023 Grand Final/ retirement at the G v norf changes

This club ain’t going anywhere, alas. Gallery of former champs has turned it into a cult of personality. Like Mini but this is not a convincing job interview.

On tactics, selection and performance, it would seem we are just spinning wheels.

How many here have a sinking feeling we’ll lose this game?

The club has lost any vestige of forward momentum it had left. And no draft picks of note either.

Not drowning, waving
Normally I would be concerned about such a game v North like you, scars from the old days..
But not this time. This group will not lose this match, not at the G.
We are still not the old Richmond- we are not the 80’s, 90’s,00’s Richmond.
This group will win this game. This group are winners.
Nothing surer..

Not ideal playing players carrying injuries (Cotch, Drioli), sticking with out of form players and also playing the 2 rucks.

I’ll be there but hopefully we get the win.

North have played 1 game at the G this year - 1. And got massacred by 100 points.
We are a 6 goal better team at the G than Marvel, and they are probably a 5 goal worse team away from Marvel.
They have lost 18 in a row, are up against the Tiger Army and 2 legend retirees…!
I know there are Scars from the old days but come on folks get real - we win easy

We celebrate Riewoldt and Cotchin this week, absolutely.

But to go so far as to mould this team in the image of past glories?

Too far, doesn’t sit well for the act itself and for where we are at collectively as a club at the moment.

Our last flag was three years ago. Three years in which this fan is filthy we didn’t win more.

It’s all about the present and the future for me.

Club is navel-gazing in team selection and that is a road to nowhere.

If these war horses want to bond then let them swap stories at the corner hotel when the season is over.

I get the john kennedy 'no room for sentiment in footy' POV,

Its usually one i share.

this is different.

Captain Blood, Francis Bourke, Kevin Bartlett, Royce Hart, Matthew Richardson, Jack Reiwoldt, Trent Cotchin.

This is our time to chair off our chieftans, our kings, our lore men, our prophets

and then get on with dynasties next week

It's quite interesting to see the RFC name every Premiership player in the team against North.

It speaks so highly of the culture that now exists in this once (1980's - 2016) shambles of a club.

As someone who has considerable understanding of workplace culture, employment challenges and team values - let me say that the message this sends to each and every one of those Premiership players (and the kids that aspire to be Premiership players) is that they are, were and will always be a TIGER!

Every employer understands that renumeration only goes so far. You need to inspire and generate a culture where people WANT to come to work, want to be part of the 'team'. Loyalty is invaluable - and it goes both ways!!!

Well done RFC. The season is over and some younger players will miss this game - but what they lose in onfield experience is compensated for by instilling a TEAM Culture with an eye to the future = Richmond First.

Their time will come.
Yes. Symbolism matters.

North have been up at half time in 3 of their last 5 games including Demons and Saints. Other 2 down by a goal. They're not the pushover they were early in the season. I expect us to win on such a momentous occassion. Desire will push us over the line. It would be extremely embarrassing not to with the number of ex-premiership players in the side.

I am surprised we are risking Dan Rioli this weekend after he has recently had so many problems with his ankle. He is obviously playing injured and we are risking giving him a a serious ankle injury that could harm his career longevity and that is something we cannot afford. I hope the medical team know what they are doing.

I can only imagine, it's so that all the long term teammates of Jack & Trent get to play with them in their last game.
Nothing rests on it, a bit of feel good *smile*, to finish a crap year.

Marlion, Kmac, Grimes, Soldo, Graham, all premiership teammates, get to play in the last game of 2 club legends.
Reading the comments on selection I thought I was the only one who thought this! One of the most important farewell games in living memory, 2 of the premiership heroes that have brought us the greatest, longed for joy we craved for almost 4 decades and people are bemoaning the fact that we dropped a couple of quality young players and kept a couple of banged up old ones. Culture. Respect. Team. Right decision and i'll be there to cry and cheer them all on.

*I've since read the last 2 pages and there is a few more of us sentimental folks! Go tiges!
