Noah Balta - Welcome to Tigerland

Comparison to Rance suffers from recency bias. That's the measuring stick, sure, but only because he plays from defence. He's actually Kouta, just cutting his teeth at the other end. When his confidence is up he can just palm the footy and straight-line blokes. He's a beast. It will be interesting to see what comes next. His over head work has jumped up a level just in the last couple of months. When he is feeling imperious and charging off half-back he is a sight to behold. I'd go to the footy just to watch him.

(It is notable that both K-Mac and Martin have improved overhead in recent years too, is there a specific coach who is having success in this area?)

Watch the media start focussing on Noah’s intercept marking skills…..

I think I heard Balta was amongst 5 players who have taken 10 Intercept marks in a game.

The record is 11!

He is a natural defender.

An intercepting defender that helps you go a long way in a finals series.

GUN. Wish we had another who could play forward.

Nice goal, but we must never do this again.

Got monstered at the other end.
I think the move was ok. Petty was in his head. Noah was pizzed off and ready to explode for some revenge (as seen with his goal) in our forward line but we couldn't even get it down to him. And a few times we didn't kick it to him when we should have, we went to Jack. He had a great match up. You could see the way the game was going in the 3rd quarter so I liked the move, we had to stimulate somewhere.

In saying that, back to the backline this week - ideally we don't want to have to do it obviously. As for Petty - I saw a lot of that up close, he has a BIG mouth on him, no wonder ZORKO got into him and made him CRY

He is the best at intercepting when allowed to run & jump.

But, at times, there can be a query on his ability one on one.

Strange as he is such a big unit!
Apply the KISS principle and he will be a long-serving and capable defender.

He’s a fantastic interceptor but just average in one on one contests. 3 times he got easily pushed aside under the ball yesterday.

Petty and Melksham in the one area sounds like verbal hell.

Part of Noah's problem is that just like Jack, he has to do much in the air. Grimesy doesn't do it any more. Broady and Vloss are up the ground and we tend to have had short backlines ever since our fascination with making everyone a half back flanker.
Rancy always had DTLD and that helped to make him great.

Gibcus will be so useful when we get him on the park.

For a big strong boy, he gets monster'd in a push and shove. Needs to stand off and get a run at it. Pety made him look small yesterday.

Usually good at reading the play/intercepting the ball in defence but no good at 1 on 1 defending hence why he shouldn't play on the #1 KPF. Ideally the third KPF to free him up and take that pressure off.

Sometimes. He can hold his ground with Hawkins and win a strength battle, but I reckon Samson Ryan would occasionally push him off the ball.

A one man band down there again last night. Game high 12 intercepts again. Stella season really - pretty underrated by the afl community.
