Noah Balta - Welcome to Tigerland

Still prone to brain fades.
Alot of brain fades.
Alongside BigV
You can count on 2 or 3 basic under 12's errors.
Kicking the grass and missing the ball, that's delist material.
BigV getting bumped and handing the ball to Witts.
BigV dropping more marks then Pettifier.
Its no good, all of them looks shot of confidence

If Essendon wanted him and they offered a 1st rounder
I would take it
His mistakes are responsible for momentum swings.
For everything he does well he fks up a minute later.
I've lost count how many basic errors he has made this year.
After 2020 I thought he would be our version of Blivas, defender/Ruckman.
He isn't reliable
*but do we trust these blokes with a 1st rounder?
Give away Balta and get Higgins Dow or Collier-Dawkins in return. That works

I think he played okay. Actually better than okay on Sunday. The number of times the ball came in to our defensive zone for the whole game would have tested any key back.

The shambolic state of our defense is evident due mostly to injury, players positions being switched about (Hardwick should stop this tactic of trying players in different roles and allow players to settle into positions they were picked on to build up confidence and cohesion on each line), and a noticeable lack of confidence.

I like Balta’s big, strong body (a rarity these days at Richmond where the recruiters seem to love small bodied types?), and his attack on the ball and opposition players.

He has the occasional clanger as does every footballer - just ask May at Melbourne.

He is what the Tigers need as a key back man and he needs good, continual defensive coaching.

I wouldn't get rid of him because we wouldn't find anyone better.
But these brain fades need to disappear. He isn't a kid, he could be in the leadership group.

Just on Balta, Hardwick needs to bite the bullet and play him up forward from the start of the game. Alternate with Ryan.

Not sure why he pulls that trigger late in the game. Young had King all day.

Whoever made that move in the 4th qtr has NFI
Balta should only play FB or CHB on talls
He was lost going forward offered nothing

This is what is wrong with this forum at the moment. 1 poster thinks Balta should play forward, fair enough, 1 think he should play back, fair enough.

But do you really think Smokin has "NFI", or is that abuse just reserved for our premiership coach?

on that move if the NFI hat fits they should wear it
Balta is lost when swung around Seems to play better when settled in a position

I would hazard a guess our 3 time premiership coach has more FI than you. He aint perfect but i reckon he knows a bit about football.

I agree Balta should stay down back, but the last 2 weeks we have gone into the last quarter needing to kick goals to win, and our forward line isnt doing that. Hardwick needed to try something.

One feature of the premiership teams was a stable back line.

Then again, when you're winning you don't need to throw players around.

I think we have seen enough of Balta forward to know he isn't suited to going into the forward line, but that doesn't mean we never try this when a game is on the line and we need something to change.

To me all the moves of players need to be looked at in context.

I really don't like seeing Balta forward, I don't think he has the footy IQ to perform there. So I would say leave him in defence unless it is a break glass in case of emergency situation, which last Sunday was.

I am at a loss to understand the penchant for trying to turn so many players into HBFers, we already have too many in that position. Which is why I would give Baker a go as a part time mid or even a small forward. Again, context, Baker has more all round talent and footy smarts so can be moved around more.

You have to look at each situation, look at the player involved, the opposition, the state of the game etc and then decide what to do. Also, when the game is on the line sometimes you have to make quick changes which you would not normally make. Balta forward? Yeah, not great and I'm sure the coaches know this, but got to try something. Swap Miller for Ralphsmith, hmm, understand the need for more run, but in the context of the opposition being tall and being one of the best teams in it at the moment, I think they could have foreseen the structural issues that would create (then again, I figure they were trying to create a structural issue for the opposition by adding a faster running player, hindsight is a wonderful thing).

Bump. Surprised at the lack of discussion here.

Copped an absolute hiding from Allen for two and a bit quarters only to be saved by our midfield dominance from the middle of the third quarter onward.

There are issues here…

Leave him to settle in the back instead of swinging him forward or into the ruck. It's hurting his consistency.

Allen is a good player and we have no one else to play that key back role so I would leave him down back. He is still important to our future too.

Nah, Allen played a good game, but for 2 of his 4 goals he had someone else lined up on him- Vlastuin for the stoppage snap, and Broad for another on a lead.
2 goals is not an absolute hiding.

I reckon it was one of those instances where both Allen and Balta were good for each side.
