Nick Vlastuin

Has been averse to rib contact for weeks now. Have they have been aggravated or is he doting? Vlastuin will be ok but he is batting a bit higher in the air and misses Broad's support.

Yeah, maybe, Jack. He spectated a couple of air balls and short-armed another, all of which he'd normally devour.

He's whingeing for frees because for years it's been open season on his head and he never gets them. Maybe he has brain damage. Maybe he's just sick of being punched in the head. Maybe he's put his body on the line so much and reaped the rewards, but no longer thinks it's worth it.

That hit from Dangerflog was brutal and he’s admitted it meant he can’t remember anything from that night. I hope we get him checked out.

One of my old time favourite Tiges , I genuinely fear for Tigga , yes he’s getting near 30 , however he’s reaction time dosent seem anywhere near it once was , still as brave as ever , however I think those concussions are slowly taking there toll

No longer Mr Reliable down back to win or halve contests. Getting beaten frequently this season. As is Grimes. You could overlook his discipline problem when he won most of his contests, but now it’s a bad combo.

To some extent Vlastuin was more valuable in a defence where others could take the roles of nullifying other players leaving him to intercept. He works best as part of a back line team, there are too many missing at the moment.

But, there has clearly been a drop off in form since Danger assaulted him in 2020. Who could blame him if he is a bit more hesitant after that.

the human side - here we have a guy who has given everything to the club for several years and put his body on the line time and again. in his pomp one of the best interceptors in the game.

the football side - he has been worse than an indifferent 2021 and 2022. a liability. mistakes, frees against, not going when he should.

like grimes he is genuine concern. unlike grimes he is close to being droppable (but won't be due to injuries)

My view is he is a side effect of our poor standards.

He has clearly lost mental focus, when you get to the point where you are arguing with umpires with the ball in your hand before the whistle has gone you have moved into the mental space of a spectator, not a player.

I think he has made a transition from being a prolific free kick conceder, to just flat out undisciplined, to having a chip on his shoulder so big it has killed his game.

I'd call him a victim of poor leadership.

Probably understandable after being wiped out by an opponent through an illegal act that goes unpunished and having your home attacked by an arsonist

I don’t think Nick has been quite the same since the deliberate hit on him by Dangerfield over two years back.
Could his game still be impacted by the concussion he suffered that day?
I wonder if that aspect of his health is still being monitored.

There will be a few who will finish this season, Castagna gone, Tarrant on the verge, Cotchin and Jack as well, with at least one other senior presenting as also near the end.

Nick could be gone as well if the several prior incidents of concussion are effecting his play, with the accumulation of hits possibly impacting his future.

I can't see the first point having any impact whatsoever on his form today, if there was any suggestion there was any long term effects on him from the concussion he wouldn't be playing.

He certainly doesn't have the same issue with the Dangerfield collision as many on here and my guess is he doesn't even think about it at all.

Might be something in the second point, maybe he has some off-field distractions.

Stupid is a dangerous discription. It suggests mental illness..
Certainly not what I was suggesting, and don't think it does.

stupid

stjuːpɪd
adjective
1. having or showing a great lack of intelligence or common sense.
2. dazed and unable to think clearly.
3. used to express exasperation or boredom. informal

…….
How do you know if he is still receiving attention for his numerous (4-5) prior incidents of concussion. Is testing now mandatory in such a case or does it only depend on the player reporting difficulty?

How do you know what he thinks about if your GUESS is that he doesn’t think about it at all?
