Floss was another who has had a pretty average back of the season. That he’s barely been discussed an indication of that.
At the mid way point he looked another candidate for AA but when he got suspended for his elbow in round 13 he seemed to lose momentum. A good player but reckon he’s just about hit his ceiling.
From the same draft Grundy’s trajectory continues to rise though.

Can you remember his game against the Swans? He was impenetrable, at the top of his game. Took a screamer over Buddy. 21 touches and a goal. Got suspended the following week for the dumb elbow on Parker and was never the same after that.

Yeah form doesnt hold indefinitely.

Pretty sure Mason Cox will have one of shortest hot streaks of all time.

Grundy will slump.

Can see degoey being red hot for years

Cox will play his typical underwhelming game.

Yeah it was very unfortunate timing. Don't think Dimma was too thrilled with him for that elbow.
He's a fantastic player when he's on but by year's end Grimes had the best/most consistent season of all our defenders.

Agree with all that. I think we are seeing the best version of Vlastuin now and will for the next 3-4 years. A fine footballer who if he can continue to be a fringe AA is more than serviceable and our next leader. Will captain the club at some stage you would think. Having said all that, I still would've and wanted to take Grundy at the time. No way he should have drifted out of top 5. Will never understand how GWS passed him up so many times.

Funny, I've also been thinking of the next generation, that he will probably captain the club at some stage. Of the even younger brigade, I wouldn't be surprised to see Jack Graham captain the club in future too (that's if he doesn't seek a trade home to SA at some point before the end of his career).

I know he has been earmarked as a future captain, he certainly leads from the front in the way he plays. But that's just one facet of being a captain. We don't really know enough of him behind the scenes to know whether he has the other facets covered. Although card to compare to Cotch as he is just an outstanding all round captain (but he has grown into that role).

Graham is also a contender but he would need to improve his contribution on the field you would think but his character and temperament is spot on.

Don't discount Rioli though, he's a very solid character and will continue to grow on the field.

If we want to look further forward, CCJ seems to be made of the right stuff but is a much longer term option.

Yep, I'd agree with all that. Vlastuin I'd say likely our next captain. Graham and Rioli are that bit younger and would be contending as the next generation after Vlas one might assume.

Certainly a change from the days we were really struggling to pick a captain from the group. No disrespect meant to Kane Johnson and Chris Newman, but there wasn't a huge field to choose from for the captaincy during that era.

He’s the same as a lot of his teammates. Peaked mid season and slowly declined after that.

cough*SOS*cough

Was a bit disappointed in Vlastuin's game today. Seemed a touch hesitant and seemed to get pushed off the ball. Also not as many intercepts as normal, didn't read it as well as he usually does

Same Brissie he seemed a bit off his usual standards. Bit fumbly. Uncertain. He'll be there round 1 though so hopefully builds in coming weeks.

He wasn't the only one a bit iffy on the ground Sunday but expect most including Nick will be all the better for the competitive run out and we will see them back to playing their usual high standards this weekend coming
