Nick Vlastuin

Agree with all about Vlastuin’s incredible form after a few niggles. Seems to have lightened off in the rump and looked deadset brisk on Sunday. His defensive positioning and reading of the play was elite. His ball use was composed and insightful. His ferocity at the contest was as good as the captain’s. 26 touches, 15 intercepts and 8 tackles. He was simply a joy to watch.

It’s possible North’s bigger and less tractable bodies were the reason for Vlastuin’s supposed increased speed and manoeuvrability, but it looks like Nick is just one of many from our middle ranks who is levelling up right now. Vlastuin has always shown promise, but now looks ready to deliver on a regular basis. Really hoping to see that class of performance again on Sunday in the top of the table clash.

This time last year we were still trying him as a mid. Don't think we'll try that again. He'll develop into our Hodge, captaincy and all.

Plays his best footy with broad in the team relieving him to run free, intercept and mop up which is what he does best. Broad is to vlastuin what astbury is to rance.

Think Hodge is the perfect example of what Vlastuin should and will be for us.

Well said!

He doesn’t need broad, plays the same way every week, he’s just a very very very solid footballer. AA clearly.

With confidence he’ll get some time in the midfield in a couple of years when we go for 4 in a row and need to change things up a bit.

Pinch hitting in the forwards showed just how versatile Flossy is. Another important and reliable player for our cause

Yeah he is a real leader now.

Good move by Dimma to change things up when we weren't clicking in that 3rd quarter

Great game. Good move to send him forward. You don't replace Jack with tall, you replace him with smarts. Interesting option down the track.

Was he? I'm sure we succeeded with that move.

I think it 2016 when that was attempted. That's my recollection anyway. But Dimma couldn't do anything right that year so i'm pretty sure he was pilloried

But last time Dimma was pilloried for it

To be fair it didn't work that well

Yes we tried playing Vlastuin forward for a few weeks when the Morris flapping arm thing wasn't going too well and it didn't go very well. Maybe a different story going forward as a surprise move as opposed to a planned selection. Whatever, it was a master stroke move today.
