On The Age website they are reporting that Foxtel want to use their own commentary team for all nine games from beyond 2024.
I think they are jumping the gun, with the way things have changed Foxtel may not even involved in the next Broadcast rights.
If Nine and Ten made a joint bid they may chose to do all games with most of them being on their Streaming Services, Stan Sport (9) and Paramount+ (10).
The AFL may even do a deal for 3 games with a Free to Air Network and do the rest of the games from AFL media and have a subscription service for all nine games.

Ten haven't made a serious bid. Heard that the AFL paid Ten so they could say there was another bid.

Gee I'm thinking it's quite the contrary
Foxtel needs the footy and is actually wanting to grab a bigger share than it has now i.e. they want at least one fewer "free to air" game each week than currently.

Yep basically trying to buy a monopoly so they can force prices up.

Game may win financially in short term but would lose in long term IMO.

Koshie went off his nut and said the new deal may involve no games on free to air TV

Looks like we'd have to get used to these bloody Thursday night matches. $4.5b on a 7 year deal.

From 2025, we can have a choice of listening to Ch 7 commentary (Taylor) or Fox commentary (Mince).

I suppose there will never be any improvement in this field (bar Jason Bennett)

Show the players and the clubs the money Gilligan, show em the money.

The last deal increased the salary cap and we used that to cement Dusty

Will this lead to an other large increase and offset the Taranto Hopper potential contracts??

Make it so number 1

Never any cause for celebration to see footy behind a paywall, but at least it appears to have not gotten any more cloistered for free-to-air viewers.

Kayo has recently increased its monthly subscription to $25 for a single feed and $27.50 for two screens. I wonder how many more price increases we'll see to help Fox pay for its share of the $643m a year?

Cost-wise, Foxtel itself is a ridiculous proposition if you're only after the sport.

I'm interested to see the detail around Telstra's streaming rights. I hope it doesn't involve the return of its dysfunctional AFL app.

All-in-all, the deal could have been worse, but Fox's exclusive arrangement to show Saturday games is just another little chip at turning the average footy fan into an industry stakeholder.

To summarize from my perspective, 88888888....

2023. The year the TV audience was favoured over hardcore members who attend games.
I reckon its worse than that, Tooheys.

Another year where Gill's bonus was favoured over anyone who wants to watch their team play footy, either in person at the grounds, or on FTA TV, or pay through the nose to watch it on a streaming service.

(Principle of mine: As far as it is possible, never give your money to Uncle Rupert!)
