New coach - what does he deal with first?

1. List management - lack of power forward and defender - trading and drafting priorities
2. Coaching structure - who stays and goes
3. Recruiting structure
4. Leadership amongst playing group
5. Skills coaching and planning
6. Fitness staff - are they up to it
7. Medical Staff - as above
8. Psychological conditioning - areas of development
9. Communication structures with Board, CEO and Director of Football
10. Bonus structure - $$$ - if achieving the above list
11. Global climate change if he has spare time ;D

I don't think you work on 'decision making under pressure'.

Instead you work on team-mates around the ball carrier working hard to present an option, AND working to a plan so their team-mate can predict where they are.

Effectively you teach 'taking the pressure off'.

The Cats have done this as well as anyone over the past 3 years..

#1 - defensive skills, especially tackling. It is not so much about strength as technique and desire so we can improve dramatically - think Nahas
#2 - supporting team mates - shepherding, blocking, running in groups
#3 - fitness. When we hit our straps e.g. first half against Ess, shows what we can do but fadeouts are primarily due to lack of fitness.

these 3 a must!
it will be very interesting who the new coach will select as his defenceive coach!

I have 14 players who should be axed and 12 who have question marks over there future. Add Richo and Cuz who are guns who will retire soon and thats 28 of 38

The new coach needs to turn list over basically 75% of it. of the 12 some are on their lsat chance others are lucky they arent added to the axing list

The new coach's first priority!

Creating a single unified vision of where club & team should be.

The coach's 2nd priority!

Gaining unanimous agreement on how to get there.

The coach's 3rd priority!

Unanimous mutual agreement on supporting each other through the changes.

What are the three most important playing related matters that the new coach will need to address when he arrives? Of course he will have to work on more than 3 things - but there are likely to be so many that he will need to prioritise and even deal with others in following years. Take Essendon for example - last year Knights focused on offensive skills to see who could take the game on (creatively and skills wise) and then worked on defensive skills this year.

From my perspective these are the priorities:

- midfield offensive structures - we have some good material - why are we so ineffective
- midfield defensive structures - it's more than tackles - its about systems
- defensive transition - way too slow to get into defensive action mode after losing contested ball

What do others see as the most important playing related issues that need to be dealt with?
