New coach - what does he deal with first?

Gotta be

(a) skills and ball movement and running to make position/support
(b) decison making (especially from clearances/congestion)
(c) offensive strategies .

On that basis - has to be Hinkley really

Other stuff like sheperding/tackling/pressure other 1% are all non negotiable and it is expected that they will be undertaken.

:clap Agree....but would add (and this should be a given) that they need to be physically in much better shape.....we have been undersized and less fit than other sides for what seems like (sorry..has been)decades ...
 
ticker, agression, pride, spirit, desire, unity, culture, enthusiasm.

if that doesn't work...I would advise the new coach to perform an exorcism on the RFC...

I don't think you work on 'decision making under pressure'.

Instead you work on team-mates around the ball carrier working hard to present an option, AND working to a plan so their team-mate can predict where they are.

Effectively you teach 'taking the pressure off'.
 
He gets the boys together and tells them that he knows the last few seasons have not been much fun for them. He explains what he wants to do with the team in regards to gameplans and gamestyle giving the players some hope that they can enjoy their footy again. He tells them that they'll train like they've never trained before.

He then says have a good break, get refreshed and we'll see you in October.

Devise a glib catchphrase to win over the supporters, e.g. "locked and loaded". Or on a grander scale, he could paraphrase John F.Kennedy - "I believe that this club should commit itself to achieving the goal, before the decade is out, of delivering a premiership cup safely to the trophy cabinet. No single project in this period will be more impressive to mankind, and none will be so difficult to accomplish."

Skills, skills and skills, if he wants something else then he can work some more on the skills. It's going to take at least 3 years before he can even get the list down to something resembling a semi competent football team.

This is the crux of our problem. We haven't done this effectively since we waved goodbye to Stuie Maxfield I don't reckon. The other thing is running into a position that benefits yourself and the kicker. This run has to be like your life depended on it. We just don't do it.
