New clash jumper - reversed strip

If we make the GF then these pics can help the discussion. We have played in traditional jumper and white shorts quite often.

What's your opinion?

I personally don't care but TV producers & AFL will decide anyway. I wonder what the players think?
IF we get there, I'd prefer to see us in our traditional jumper with white shorts, than wearing the clash strip. But no huge tragedy I suppose, if we need to wear the clash strip. At least we don't have a ridiculous all white strip (like Adelaide), or silly pictures of a cartoon Tiger on the front. Still does look like a footy jumper.

hi guys
cant understand people who would be ok for us to wear clash jumper in a grand final
when they first came out with these jumpers I said to myself - if we finally make a grand final after 40 years I will be ropeable if we have to wear this
I absolutely agree with KB and most of his callers today agreed with us
It does not matter how good the clash jumper is - it is not traditional and on the one day when it is so important to laud all the traditions about this club - to see
our players in the clash jumper would kill me
In the old days when they swapped jumpers I could live with that as that was the tradition of the time and they only swapped at the end
I hope the club ignores any directive by the AFL and just wears our real jumper and cops the fine
Are they going to stop the game and pull off all the jumpers- probably not!

They mentioned this morning that soulless wasteland that is MFC used 6 different jumpers in the first 10 rounds of this year

So if Barcelona had to wear their away kit in the champions league final would we hear an uproar? If Liverpool had to wear their away kit in an FA cup final would we hear an uproar? Would I prefer to wear our home strip in the GF? of course. But if were lucky enough to lift the cup, I don't think anyone would be saying to themselves "pity we're not wearing our traditional jumper." They would be basking in the celebrations. I should add that Spain had to wear their away kit in the 2010 world cup final, but they just got on with it and changed into their home kit for the presentations.

KB is a dinosaur. time to get with the times.

we also have different jumpers for dreamtime and ANZAC eve. no complaints here, even though it is clearly a marketing ploy to sell more jumpers.

Yes, if we have to play in a pink polka dotted tutu I couldn't care less.

Just win and change jumpers for the photos.

The crowd will be in the traditional jumper - that's good enough.

Happy to be there.

Can't really compare it to soccer.
In soccer, the teams typically play multiple competitions involving many different clubs from different countries.
It's odds on they will sooner or later come up against someone with the same jumper (a la Richmond v Glenelg) so they just have to have a reverse or clash strip ready.
In the AFL, you never have to play anyone other than the other 17 clubs.

Having said that, nearly all the footy I've watched over the last 10 years or so has been on internet streaming.
Up until about three years ago (when the quality became very good) I can tell you we clashed very badly with Adelaide - worse than anyone else including even Essendon.
With the relatively poor resolution of a dodgy stream, the predominantly dark jumpers with a splash of yellow were very hard to tell apart, not that it matters now.

That's OK, I can't understand people who care what we wear if we get in our first GF in 35 years. I'd be happy with pink and purple stripes if it means we win a Grand Final

I'll concede that point. it does make you wonder why the expansion teams in the past 30 years were allowed to create kits that clashed so much with other established teams.

I have no interest in what soccer or other codes do ( heres looking at you Craig Bellamy)
Just because other codes do something does not make it superior
liking tradition does not mean we are "dinosaurs"
There were no such things as clash ( or special guernseys for all these other "occasions") jumpers and things were fine
the TV clash thing is ridiculous - I watched plenty of footy in B+W and never had a problem separating the teams as did everyone else of the era

Completely agree.

Couldn't give a *smile* what soccer does.

Because the AFL doesn't anticipate problems, it creates them, then makes policy on the run without considering what further problems might arise, and so on until you just want to punch Gilligan in the face.

I would prefer we wear our traditional jumper but unfortunately Adelaide's jumper is one that really does clash with ours. If we play them, we'll be in the yellow and black, and I'll deal with it.

im of the school that

if we win the flag, I couldnt give a stuff if we are in taup tutus

I hope we aren't in that chicken jumper on GF day. It won't matter if we change jumpers for the photo, because the ones of Dusty fist pumping on the siren will be in the wrong jumper.

I hope we're AT Grand final day. If we make it, then I'll worry about whether we can win the Premiership. I'll probably not find the time to worry about what bloody jumper we wear.

Good points Ian4. We would prefer to see our team in the home strip (I wont say traditional bc it has changed many times over 100 years) but we should accept that clash strips are part of top level televised sport around the world. Our sport should look progressive and internet streaming quality can be a bit dodgy so a "dark v light" approach to uniforms is desirable, provided the clash strip is attractive. If not then just design a better one!! I think ours is good and fits in with our Tiger Theme Song. Reversing the colours is what they have done for basketball singlets in most NBA teams for years and soccer as you mentioned.

If we get to the big dance and we win it then I'd like the presentations and post game photos to show the same jumper they played in. And our Tiger Theme Song will be belting out many times with extra punch into that bit near the end...YELLOW and BLACK. Emphasizing yellow for our away strip perhaps? I would not like to see the property stewards bringing out 22 home jumpers just for the presentations bc it would not be a true reflection of what we saw during the match.

I'm about the same age as KB and yes he is being a dinosaur over this because we need to be progressive and there is one very easy way for us to be in our home strip...just finish on top of the ladder!

I'm sure if the tiger players were asked to comment they would not care. Nick Del Santo on SEN today said the players really don't care what they wear because it's not that important. There are so many other things to think about in preparing for the game that are far more important.

I just hope that if we get to GF that this public debate stops and does not become a media distraction to interfere with the preparation of the team for the biggest game of their lives. That week before the GF we must not focus on the "small stuff" but focus on discussion of how each team is likely to perform.

GO TIGERS...in whatever you wear.

There is nothing to like about that awful jumper...If we get there we should wear our traditional strip. Stuffed if I can understand the support on here for it. Really.
