As much as id love the Tigers to snare a Lewis Jetta type which would add so much i fear using a 1st rounder on small indigenous kids for one reason and one reason only.

THIS CLUB JUST CANNOT SEEM TO DEVELOP ABORIGINAL BOYS.

I feel the RFC is the worst club in the league when it comes to bringing on the aboriginal boys our record is sheizenhausen.

A Lewis Jetta type is one of the needs for the Tigers as is a strong skilled ball winning mid.

That is one of the bigger challenges that the club faces. Given the endemic lasck of success across all areas, it is no great wonder that problems like this keep dogging us.

What they need to do is appoint an Indigenous person to the Player Development staff, either as a Development coach or as a Player Welfare Officer , with specific responsibility in this area.

There are plenty of recently-retired indigenous players serving apprenticeships at the AFL at the moment who are looking for their next opportunity. Andrew Macleod, Chris Johnson and Michael O'Loughlin immediately come to mind. Nathan Lovett-Murray, should he choose to retire at year's end, would be perfect, given his experience at a club that HAS been getting this right.

I don't think any club can just ignore a large group of potential draftees on the basis that they don't think they can develop them properly.

For those who have watched this series, please give me your best of each type.

1. Inside midfield extractor -
2. Outside midfield runner & deliverer -
3. Mobile tall key forward -
4. Small crumbing forward -

1. Oliver Wines or Jonothon O'Rourke (O'Rourke better on the outside)
2. Dayle Garlett or Sam Mayes (Mayes is a high character kid and can play as a medium forward too as well as inside. Reminds me of Pendles)
3. Tough one. Kristian Jaksch or Tim Membrey i'd be looking at (Jaksch if he lasts till compo pick and Membrey in the 3rd/4th round.
4. Ben Kennedy (more of a mid though) Marvin Warrell is one I really like as a more stay at home forward. Pity about his ratty that I cringe at thinking of Troy Taylor. :-X

We are the masters at looking for reasons not to draft players. The past isn't the future.

A couple of player thoughts from the games I have seen.

Jonathon O'Rourke and Sam Mayes are my favourite players after Whitfield. Both have great skills, good height and running ability. The perfect modern runners.

Olly Wines and Jake Stringer both look on the heavy and slow side to me. Only 1 or 2 spots in each team these guys can fill.

Big fan of Taylor Garner and Ben Kearns from Vic Country also. Happy to reach for Taylor if O'Rourke and Mayes are gone as he wont last to our 2nd pick.

I think Wines is more versatile than that. He would be good as a midfielder but equally he could hold down a half back or half forward flank position. The knock on him for me is that he isn't a quick decision maker. He doesn't make bad ones but in a quicker game he might get caught a bit more with the ball.

Emma Quayle's summary of Div 1.

Wasn’t before the champs but I really like Jonothon O’Rourke.

I want to walk away with at least one of Nick Vlastuin, O’Rourke, Rory Atkins as a inside mid.

Anyone know if and where there is any footage available for some of these kids? Can't find any highlights on youtube as yet.

you can watch the whole games on AFL site.

Watching the WA v SA game & the kid who hasn't had much spoken about him but will go very high IMO is Colquhoun.
His disposal is very nice & just seems to read the play, had a good game against the Thunder too off memory.

I have a few issues with this scoop - orourke can play inside but is predominently an outside run and carry player, vlaustin played half back for the nationals and has had an ordinary season on ball for northern hence the move to half back and atkins is just a player. Cut from the AIS this year and didn't make the Metro top 25 for the Div 1 games. No thanks.

Does anyone think that Wines is any chance to be around for our first pick?

Very good size/weight for a mid and just about ready to go for senior footy.

From what I've seen I think O'Roukle has a strong inside game but the coaches have him play outside to showcase his athleticism and skills which improves his draft stock.

I like him a lot. He plays a modern defenders game and just reads the play and uses the ball so well. Plenty to like about him.

I reckon we need silk more than grunt. Still like Garlett.

Me too. I just wonder if he can commit himself fully to the life of professional AFL footballer.

Geez that SA side has some good talent amongst it, that McDonough is pretty lively up forward, could've kicked 10 in that game against WA.

Well he's destined to be drafted by Richmond then. He can walk away half way through the year and play country footy with Taylor, Roberts, McDonald and Connors.
