I did a PRE search for Nathan but nothing came up.
The guys commenting on the AFL coverage thinks he's a really good get.
Has good speed and agility and is very powerful.
Miller said we were targeting him and he was a player who could easily have been selected in National draft.
Does anyone have any info on him? I think he came from Geelong? Has he played senior footy? Vital stats etc?

Re:Nathan Foley

I'm pretty sure he comes from the Geelong Falcons and was 1st rover in the TAC All-Australian team. Has great poise and footy smarts, but his a bit weak with his kicking. Nereds to bulk up a bit too. Good player none the less.

Profile:
Foley had a sensational year for Geelong and was a worthy choice as 1st rover in the TAC team of the year. He is basically an onballer who gathers a mountain of possessions and enjoys kicking a goal. However, there is one major query I have over him that would make me very wary of even rookie listing him.

Nathan is very good in close - his hands are excellent, and he is extremely creative. Will give off a handball that looks like a fluke, but he is capable of doing it all the time - vision in a contested situation is first class.

He works hard in close, lays tackles, but is still very slight and would need a couple of seasons on the weights if he was to play anywhere else but forward pocket or wing.

Foley loves a goal, he will shoot on sight pretty much. Is capable of some brilliant snaps. He likes to play on and gain metres by carrying the ball at every opportunity. Has a fair bit of pace, something he apparently worked hard on during the summer.

Consistent possession winner (more than 16 in every match, best of 43 against Oakleigh). However, my major concern is his kicking. Although he is not afraid to kick on either foot, his disposal by foot, particularly under pressure, can be very poor. A lot of his kicks seem to materialise into Steven Greene floaters - far too many for my liking. If it wasn't for this he'd certainly be worth a look.

However, Foley is very slight and my concerns over his disposal by foot mean I'd consider him only a possible rookie list at best.

Re:Nathan Foley

Hmmm me thinks this is our replacement for mcgrath. But oh well who cares we will see how he goes for coburg. I think he was the stand in captain but yeh i hope he is good guys cause we missed the likes of getting Furfaro, cosgriff and bartel.

Re:Nathan Foley

Evo, my thoughts exactly, another midget dwarf.
Still, looks like he has no problems fingding the footy, just getting rid of it effectively. ;D

Re:Nathan Foley

I don't understand how but Furfaro wasn't available. Maybe he was listed witht he Lions last year and they ahd the option to retain him?

My understanding Rosy is that the Lions and swans get priority Rookie list picks. I was listening to AFL.coms coverage and they said that the Lions had pre-listed him so even though they didnt have first pick they were guarantted to get him.
As for the knockers of Nathan Foley, and they have already come out of the woodwork, he was second for Geelong in the Morrish Medal last year, got BOG more times for his club than any other player and has no trouble finding the ball. As much as you say he is another small player, every team needs a few creative, smaller ball magnets. And for crying out load he is only on our rookie list - let's give him a go.

Re:Nathan Foley

I think Foley sounds a great get jayfox.

I think we've done well....a mixture of height, experience, agression, youthful arrogance and long term prospects.

A mixed bag of new guys to the club. Some will slot right in, some will keep the senior team honest by pressing for selection and some are the face of our future.

Good luck to all our new Tigers.

Re:Nathan Foley

Can somebody confirm that we will have the room to elevate one rookie?

Foley, whilst being a little fella seems to have an ability to actually get the ball, rare these days.

First rover in team of the year is a pretty good effort. Somebody thinks he is pretty good.

Re:Nathan Foley

We are one spot short on the senior list, but doesn't there have to be a long term injury to promote a rookie? I might have that one wrong. I contacted the AFL a while ago asking for all the rules and regulations regarding rookies but they never replied.

I think that is right Rosy! We do have a spare spot but because we are close to the limit with TPP we cannot automatically promote a kid. We would need someone to go onto the Long Term Injury List (where payments are excluded from the TPP) in order to promote a rookie.

Re:Nathan Foley

The word is he is a crap kick.

However, Foley is young enough that they can work on his kicking and maybe turn it around.

A job for Duncan Kellaway perhaps :D

Is this the same Nathan Foley from Hi-5?

Please don't tell me you have kids Diggler. I feel like they did in Jurassic Park when they found out the creatures were breeding! ;D

Re:Nathan Foley

Wish it was, wrennyboy - we could do with someone like that - scare a few pretty-boys out of their skins ! :D

Re:Nathan Foley

Geez all the bloody whinging about a kid on the rookie list.
Has everyone forgotten about Craig Lambert? Brilliant in and under the packs with great hands and a worse kick than Duncan Kellaway.
Why the hell can't we just congratulate the kid for getting his first sniff at the A.F.L. and let him try to develop into a senior footballer?

Re:Nathan Foley

Out of all the posts here TM only one said he was a crap kick. Where do you get the "all the bloody whinging" opinion from?
I think it's fair to discuss Nathan. I asked about him because Miller said before the draft that we were after him and it's a surprise he wasn't taken in the national draft.
A lot of people rated him highly, and he could possibly play seniors this year.
