Nathan (Axel) Foley [MERGED]

Thanks for everything Axel and good luck for the future.
You've earned a rest. :clap :clap :clap :clap :clap :clap :clap :clap :clap

Heard the news and had to reply.

I read a lot of what others have written and my sentiments are the sane.

I was hoping by some slim chance we might see him for the finals, but not to be. Not from lack of trying or effort.

When he was at his peak I loved his dash out from the middle and those goals.

Sad though as when any player finally retires not from being forced or knowing he can't get a kick, but from the injury gods. Gee they have cruelled some of my favourite players.

Congratulations on your career from a rookie listed one to a 150 gamer.

Great clubman and person!

I remember he plodded around for a while in his first year or so, and then it suddenly dawned on him to run! Was one of the premier mids in the game until those bloody achilles. Top bloke, top player.

Was a pleasure watching him play. Always a favourite of mine. Bugger of a run with injuries. A mate of mine was living next door to a relative of Nathan's at one stage who had a pool he (Nathan) would frequent, at times when re-Habbing a few years back. Said he was a champion bloke to have a chat to. Good luck Nathan. Hope the next chapter in your life is a good un and you do the right thing and sire a few boys to play for the Tigers.

The Foley first bounce normally happened within the first 4 steps as he broke away from the pack. Very quirky habit.

Farewell to a champion of the club. Unfortunately injury prevented him from ever reaching his true potential. I remember watching him play for Coburg against Bendigo in the pouring rain at Punt Road Oval (pre-renovations) and he just racked up possession after possession. Knew he was going to be a player after that.

Don't forget his stellar 2007 season when absolutely dominated the PRE Player of The Year award. Voted best Tiger afield in 9/22 matches that year and in the best 3 an astounding 14/22 matches. Won it by the length of the Flemington straight.

Congrats on a fine career Axle, you deserved better than to go out the way you did with so many injuries.
One of my best mates that is a mad Saints fan once made the comment about Foley in his prime the he was "Luke Ball with speed to burn"
I thought that was a massive compliment coming from him.

Yep. Congrats n thanks Axle, ripping little player. Bloody shame the injury gods decided to give your arse a kicking, plenty of times there was a smile on the dial watching your work.

He was a fav of mine. Players are rare that can get the inside clearance than break away from the pack. If only we had his 2007 form now.

Thanks for the memories Axle, those break neck runs out the middle will always ring in my mind, from the rookie list to one of the first players picked. Your such a great role model around the club and will be missed no doubt. Congratulations on wearing the best jumper in the league with such pride and distinction.

Saddened to hear Axle is hanging up his boots but it was a fair bet when the injury gods attacked again this year. Never had the privilege to watch him live but have spoken to him a couple of times during my trips to OZ. A top bloke and will be sorely missed. Good luck with his future where ever he goes.
A picture of Axel will remain my PC screen saver

Good work H. Exact type of player we are severely lacking.

Sad to see you go Nathan. Congrats on making it to life membership.

Thanks for the memories. That is a very good highlight clip btw.

Congrats to Axel on a fantastic career. Always got the best out of himself. Was one of the few modern players who got to put on the Big V. Held up the Richmond midfield. Imagine what he would have looked like at his best with Cotchin, Miles, Dusty around him.

Such a good bloke too, you can see that from his speech to the players.

Best of luck for retirement Axel - now get moving breeding boys
