Nathan (Axel) Foley [MERGED]

Re: Nathan Foley

With cogs being out of the side axel is doing the job cogs normally does. So when one door closes it gives some one an oppotunity. If cogs was out there tonite foley would be playing little cameos. So its good to see the the kid step up to the plate.

Re: Nathan Foley

Foley showed tonight that he belongs at afl level. he's a terrier in the centre bounces. Dermie gave him best on ground tonight due to his getting the ball out of the middle.

YFK. Don't you think Williams could see as well as the rest of us that Foley was the one turning the game in our favour as soon as he was on the ball? Don't you think he'd have used what he thought was his best option the try and stop him? Kornes, Salopek, Thomson, Burgonye and Surjan have been very good in the last 6 weeks and Foley was a big part of making them look pretty useless.

The 'stupidity' lies with you and your '1st and 2nd season players can run out full games on the ball' mentality...the sensible player management and using a young up and comer to best effect in the centre lies with the coaching staff and with what I've said they're doing all along. Limit their game time and let them grow into the role in line with their physical capabilities - regardless of their perceived 'talent.'

Foley is in the his 4th year at the club. 21 is not exactly young for a 177cm player. Alot of people will tell you he's entering his prime. You might want to apologize to claw for branding him stupid when he didn't say anything like what you've attributed to him.

It'll be interesting to see how many minutes Foley played won't it?

isn't a year in football a long time. it is interesting to revisit this thread one year later. this boy has proved he is the real deal.
:clap :clap :clap

Re: Nathan Foley

Congratulations to young Foley, but I have to disagree with most posters that today was his best game. His best attribute is his consistency. It amazes me how often he gets to the ball first in congestion situations or if not first then forces a turnover with a bump or tackle. Done it from day one in the seniors. To me he played no different last night to the way he plays every week - although I will concede he is getting more uncontested ball and being used more as a linkman probably because Cogs is out and his teammates have more faith in him. What has happened is that the gestalt switch has been flicked and people are not 'assuming' Foley is a slow unskilled trier and actually watching what he is doing. Welcome to the club folks. Some astute posters such as Harry, Dyerere, TOO, GOPR, Claw, Disco and Mrs Tantie have known all along though.

BTW more game time for the weeble!!!

They weren't the only ones ;)

Weeble looked like he'd been in a NRL game at the end with all that tape around his head. ;D

Re: Nathan Foley

Simply has to get a nomination this week ;D,Amazing to think he gets about 60-70 min each week and is neally averaging 15 touches :clap

I think it was a very good game from Nathan because of the reasons you've given.  He had the extra responsibility with Cogs out and really stepped up last night, especially with the clearances.

I've always been a big fan of Nathan and really admire his toughness but I still think last night he really came of age doing a job that was required of him. :clap

Sorry Andy - Noted :)

Re: Nathan Foley

I was amazed that on the AFL site Alan Shiel didn't even mention Foley amongst the best. Not sure which game that he was watching... KB (on Fox Footy) mentioned during the game that Foley was another one of Richmond's younger players slipping through the radar of oppositie teams each week. The good news is that we are producing a number of "Radar slippers" at Tigerland this season - which beckons well for the future.

Well done Nathan Foley & TW.

Media are usually the last to catch on, after coaches and supporters.

Looks like Plough is developing yet another player.

I reckon he could be developing a Tiger version of a Libba.

don't ever put down axel like that!!!

who decides on the rising star nominations? because if he doesn't get it this week there will be an abusive email from myself heading in someone's direction this week. i'm also gonna email the SEN soapbox and white line fever

Re: Nathan Foley

Looking the goods, clearance monster is young Axel.

I bow to Terry's handling of Foley, he is pulling the right strings with this guy.

I like the cut of this Wallaces jib. Smart man.

Re: Nathan Foley

Foley is really coming on well & appears to have cemented his spot in the side.

Moneybags Demetriou is Chairman of the Rising Star panel.

Re: Nathan Foley

Hopefully everyone knows how old he actually is and they dont read how old he is on the stats websites.
