i disagree. and in a big way. hardwick imo should have little to do with recruiting or list management, a say yes.
i keep on saying it but the club should have a firm path in place to build the list after the review. they need to implement the processes to go down that path.after that review they should have a damn good idea of who has to go.
hardwick imo is just one small process in the plan. we had an all encompassing review why have it at all if it does not set out the strategy to build the club, and the processes needed to get there.

brown and coughlan were clearly washed up and had to go. no slight on either player both have been good players. it was not hardwicks decision to make. as a club we keep on putting all the eggs in one basket hardwick is not the messiah he has his job to do and the listmanager head of footy and recruiting officers have theirs. they should all be on the same page with the same brief of what is required. when will people understand.

Spot on claw.

As I posted a few weeks ago it had been reported that a number of list decision would be made before the appointment of the new coach.

Hardwick has to rubber stamp the departure of every decrepit and dud from our list does he? Gimme a break.

CAMERON: "So Damo, we've looked every which way at Cogs and Browny. The fact is they have zero currency come trade week and we can't see them on the list for next year".

HARDWICK: "Yeah I agree Craig, the game looks to have passed these boys by. Bit of a tragedy after what they have been through."

CAMERON: "Well we will break the news to them this week then. What are your thoughts on letting them run around again this week?"

HARDWICK: "Yeah, no dramas Craig. I've seen enough of the list to know where I want to go from here. Be good for Cogs to have a last gave in his old home town in front of his family and if either of them are keen to go Preseason Draft next year then they can show there wares one last time. After what they've been through, why not? Like I said the other day, I want players who have played at Richmond to say when they had every opportunity to become better footballers and better people."

Don't think that conversion would have happened re. Cogs considering he was apparently told he was gone before Dimma was appointed coach.

agree with claw and I think the decision in the context of where the club list is at is a no brainer.

At least they were given a fairwell game of sorts

NGB coming up on SEN...I hope it's interesting.

*Flight home delayed 3 hours...players still in Perth 3am this morn.
*Respects decision to be moved on. (I didn't catch WHO made the decision)
*The leg was disappointing....would we have played finals that year...probably
*Leg took a fair bit out of him
*Hasn't decided yet he wants to play....groin op next Fri.
*Is definitely interested if a club shows interest in him
*Groin op minor....abductor release (?)...will give him much more freedom when its done
*Believes he can get to the fitness level he should be at 31
*The problems are the groin and fitness now...couldn't do extra fitness to get to req level.
*Couldn't believe the way the season turned out...didn't see it coming
*DHW fantastic appointment
*Took a risk in going to Richmond, didn't work out, no regrets. Nice to be at Dogs in finals, but he hopes they win the flag.
*Yes there is hope at Richmond...fell away badly in last few rounds....midfield will be ok next year....backline crap...skills crap

Keep us informed of what he says.

Could be a handy player in a forward pocket in a very good side next year. Would not be surprised if a Club took a punt on him for 2010.

Just heard him on MMM too. Spoke very well. Said he understood Richmonds position and the decision given where they are and where they want to get too. Said he couldn't get his groins right and will have surgery in the next week to have an abductor release.

Said he enjoyed his time there etc. Seems to have no bitterness towards the club and said he probably saw the righting on the wall mid season when he couldn't get over the groin issues. Knew that he come up short on his pre injury form, but gave it everything he could but complications hindered his recover and has never been able to get back to what he was.

Sounded to me like he has some reservation about whether he will go on. Said he won't be out selling himself as that is a bit tacky, but if an offer comes along he will look at it. Hopes that if the surgery is successful he will still have some footy left in him as its not a major operation.

Well done Browny. Fate has robbed up of two greats in Cogs and Browny. Bloody Melbourne

Indeed.
At his best Nathan had more class than most who have ever come to Tigerland. He was a genuine superstar in early 2005 and like Cogs one can only wonder what might have been..

Certainly not his fault that his leg snapped in two and it seems he's done all in his power to get back but he's also been fighting the clock.

I wish him all the best and thank him for the memories.

He seems confident he can get his body better....trade sounds promising. Get it done CC!

This is what grates me the most. How many genuine great footballers has this club had struck down by serious injury:

Tony Free
Mark Coughlan
Nathan Brown

and the injury gods tried bloody hard to add Richo to that list, but he kept fighting back

I'm sure there are many others as well.

Why would any Club want to give up a draft pick for him when RFC have made it perfectly clear that he will not be on their list in 2010?

Best to get him as an uncontracted player in the PSD.

Couldn't agree more but I would have given brownie and cogs(after all his work to come back) one more year . I would have more likely given king and mcmahon the flick first

As I posted a few weeks ago and earlier in this thread list decisions were made before the appointment of hardwick.

"My fate was decided before new coach Damien Hardwick took control"

Here's some Browny body language I would prefer to remember.

Thanks ToO. IMO that was the best goal I had seen for over a decade. And in the context of that match where Collingwood tried to squeeze us in the middle and keep the game tight, that goal put us in front and the flood gates opened for a 6 or 7 goal victory.

Shame about Brown, but his time is well and truely up. Would be flabergasted if any club wastes a pick on a 32yo broken down player 5 years past his best.

I went and sat through that on Friday night - so from someone that was there was complete relief when I found out he would not be playing for RFC anymore.
I have tried, but I just can't like Browny. He is just so into himself that I find i hard to reconcile that he plays a TEAM sport.
I have never seen him do anything (or at least I have seen him many times not do the team thing). He is one of the most selfish footballers I have every seen. I suspect I felt like that from the start - I am still a bit old school with players changinf clubs (especially when it wasn't for going home or a DECENT reason).
He was aweful on Friday night and has been in the other games I have seen him play this year. Disinterested, not trying worriesd about himself instead of whats best for the TEAM.
THe best thing he sould of done was retre himself - but he wasn't even capable of that!
Wont be remebered in this house withour hostility.
