Most underrated player to wear yellow and black

Bryan Wood versus Keith Greig.

Only Richmond supporters knew how well Bryan played on the star North wingman and Brownlow Medallist

Too many to choose from, especially from the 17-20 era. With so many ordinary players how did we manage to win 3 flags? Easy answer - they weren't ordinary.

I'll second the motion for Michael Mitchell, he was amazing.

Paul Sproule is another, much better than given credit for.

Also agree with the above on Bryan Wood, going to Essendon soured it a bit, but he more than held his own against Keith Greig in the '74 Grand Final.

I'll go with Paul Broderick. He was a gun who just did the job without getting many plaudits from those outside Tigerland. Great footy brain.

Legendary matchup. I remember Bryan taking Greig to the cleaners on several occasions. Actually probably my favourite ever matchup.

Ivan Maric - helped changed the culture at the club

I know he was our vice captain til right before the premiership years but never really heard many stories about his leadership or influence on the culture? (Edit - would love to hear about it if anyone wants to share!)

I loved Woody and loved the way he always touched up twinkle toes Grieg. For Tiger supporters that was sweet because we always felt Grieg stole at least one Brownlow from KB.
On the other side Woody had a lot of trouble with Robbie Flower as an opponent. He wasn't the only one as Flower was the best winger of that era, an awesome player.

Castagna was pretty underrated by the general public and our own supporters. Triple premiership player and no one from PRE could even fit him in their best 22 combined premiership side!
I think he's been rated about right.

An elite athlete, and a fighter with huge heart and drive.

But extremely poor ball skills, no composure and low footy IQ.

He found the right team and the right role. He is a deserved 3 time premiership player.

I think it's fair to say we might not have won 3 flags without him. But it's equally fair to say that if he hadn't been in that team at that time, he'd have struggled to play 50 games.

He was already on our fringes from 2021 onwards, which would never have been true of the real underrated players like Vlossy/Lambo/Edwards/Astbury etc.

Unbelievably Cotch was underrated by the wider football community.

Both in terms of his influence as (Triple Premiership) Captain & his ability to change his game to prioritise team success.

I think it's baffling how little credit the champ gets.

I was going to mention Cotch, but I think what we saw last year in his last season was a fair bit of praise and acknowledgement of how great a player and leader he was. I think many of our players missed on the plaudits they deserved during our dynasty simply because Geelong were also up and abouts and had a near monopoly of supporters embedded in the media and AFL House.

mine and took a while to remember his name , Chris Hyde
was playing along side the likes of Bowden , Wayne Campbell , Nathan Brown etc
who were respected , but felt during that period the top players did practice a bit of self preservation
Hyde would burrow in and get his own ball , and look to go straight instead of sideways or backwards
obviously didn't have the silky skills of other but still managed 93 games

Daniel Rioli

Shane Edwards

Kane Lambert (I was wrong about his lack of kicking power being an issue)

Mark Graham
Jeez, overrated for mine. Forever just an average player at another club that should never have been contracted. Just like McMahon/Miller/Hampson. Known quantities who added nothing of value.

i reckon a lot of people forget how good a player he was back in and around 2012. He was pure brillance.
He is remembered more as one of the greatest captains of all time, and as a fearless player.

Haha it was tongue in cheek, just never see him mentioned on PRE so wanted to see if I could jag a bite

Jason Castagne twice as underrated as the second most underrated player in RFC history for me

Put the K in Chaos of the triple flag Dynasty,

Then harangued into early retirement by supporters?

He could be on the cover of

'A complete history of the greatest underrated sporting heroes of world sport'
