Membership 2021 - What does it look like?..

When I rang the club they said they would be issuing bar codes for those who can go to each game, so a bar code will be for one game and you get another if you get to go to the next game.

I don't think we will see membership cards for 2021 with bar codes, these will be our membership cards I reckon.

In any case I get a separate ticket for each game as a Roaming Tiger member and I really really hope they allow us to print out the entry bar code as it is so much faster to get through the turnstile with a printed bar code.

Is that not what I had said ?

What's the point of having a blank useless piece of plastic when they're going digital with game access anyway?

So when we want to pre-order next years Mark Knights premiership posters as members, we have a card we can scan in and upload

Interesting rundown of 2021 membership packages for each club in today's hun....

Carlton's caught my eye.... Apparently if you stayed on board last year and renew, you'll also get a free one for someone else. Cain Liddle is taking rubbery figures to new levels!

The Hawks are providing gift packs amongst their offerings. .. maybe that'll include vet care and dog chews.

Over at North they'll be just happy if you tell people you're a member

What's our membership tally looking like at the moment anyone know?

Can't seem to find a figure anywhere.

They've me broken their previous record.
Sitting about 10k behind us.
I wonder how many of these are the freebies.

Clubs should show the money derived from memberships and not just member numbers. That would reflect a more accurate figure.

I think the stuff about bloated membership numbers is more myth than anything. I remember reading an article around the time the old Hawthorn pet membership thing was circulating and it said the AFL count is only paid memberships which must include a match entry of three games or more.
If this is the case and one person by 4 3 game memberships, does that count as 1 membership or 4?

Instead of staying your members are season members, you can say well that person has 4 memberships which equals the same

I've said that for the last 20 years.
Don't worry about the actual numbers but the total revenue.
That would show exactly who is winning.

3 games memberships should be discounted in the member numbers.

Why?

I can't get my head around the need to equate a membership to the amount of games they buy. If you go down that path then you end up like Collingwood where only the elite Social Club members get a vote.

If you want to do it properly, separate the concept of membership and season tickets. $xxx to be a member of the club. That gives you voting rights in return for financial support of the club. That's your members. Separately sell Season Tickets of various categories, games etc. You can bundle them up if you want but they should be separate items.

I've been a member for 16 or 17 consecutive years now and in that time made it to 3 regular season games and 1 Grand Final despite dropping over a grand a year on the club memberships. None of them offer more than 3 games a season. Why shouldn't I be counted as a member?

I think every person who purchases any sort of adult membership is a member of the club in terms of voting rights etc aren't they?

It's only the AFL club member tally that applies a 3 game minimum criteria.
Most adult "memberships" come with voting rights at RFC, which is the right way to do it. Tying memberships to how many games you pre-purchase just doesn't make sense.

Yes and no.

I think it was brought up about Carlton offering a free membership if you buy one. I haven't seen the scheme, but if that was a 3 game membership for free, then they will have a lot more members, but no additional revenue as they will just supply the volume of 3 game members.

An average membership fee per member would be an ideal way to assess the "Quality" (for lack of a better word) of those membership sales.

I think a measure of average membership length would also be a good measure also.

I like your thinking. Numbers are distorted. At one stage we had a donation of 50 to the Alannah and Madeline Foundation and you got a 1 game membership with voting rights. The foundation is a great cause but including as a member number.

Didn’t Adelaide try and include digital memberships in their numbers a few years ago.

I'm certain free or promotional memberships don't count in the tally.

The person has to have paid a minimum amount of like $50 or something similar.

There's always ways around it. Marketing will always use these whilst total number of memberships is considered the driver that they need to achieve.

They could offer buy 2 memberships, get them both 50% off. Both would be above the base rate, but no additional membership fees.
