Melbourne Publiic Transport Infrastructure

Yeah, I pretty much live on Station St. One door up. It's not too good in the morning.

Did you know Melbourne's first tram used to run up there 100 years ago? Hence its other name,Tram Rd.

Box Hill station's still better than others but a bit of a ghetto-look nowadays from what I've seen.

before you complain about the bus service on Station Street, give it a go out at Narre or Tarneit where its pathetic

much bigger priorities than an area that will grow a bit - the west and outer SE are booming and still get SFA in terms of public transport

Agree with Evo, if we get another 1 mil people in Melbs we will burst.

I looked at buying medium density housing as investments in the Doncaster but decided not to based on the fact of no public transport. Not attractive for students or city workers. Went down the Neapean Highway and bought investments cheaper, the same distance from the city but with better public transport. Never a better time to buy rental property within 40-50kms of the city.

I remember once as a youngster catching PT out to Waverley Park in the 1990's as a school boy. Just a nightmare, never again. Got home about 7.30. Two buses, four trains, two trams in total. Nightmare.

Having spent the best part of 20 years living in Zurich, Tokyo and Singapore, I cringe when I see the public transport in any Australian city.

How does an airport train help the majority of travellers going to the airport from the suburbs?
Are we expected to all take our cars into the City - park - then catch the train?
I'm struglling to see the logic of it.

Zerogame, the Secretary of the Public Transport Users Association - Tony Morton claims in "Your say" in todays Herald Sun (sorry, i can't find the link, maybe someone can assist?) that a link between the Eastern freeway and Citylink is unjustified because traffic volumes aren't big enough and claims it's just a scam by big business to win contracts to build and toll this new road. I'm sure it's a biased opinion, but it might help explain why the state govt disregarded this part of the eddington report.

Isn't it ironic that the bloke who designed the streets of the CBD, has the street with the worse traffic issue bearing his name?

Robert Hoddle. Nightmare. What area does everyone think is the biggest nightmare to drive on?

The two that go off the Eastern Freeway: Hoddle and Alexander Parade.

When cars on a freeway are backed up all the way to Doncaster(ie 20 kms) most mornings, surely that's an indication something is awry.

The Ring Road is a disgrace because it is quite new so there is less excuse for getting it so wrong.

He clearly wants the money for public transport infrastructure. Hardly something I'd take seriously.
As someone who drives to client sites in that area regularly, I refuse to book meetings in around peak hour in that area as I know how bad traffic will be.

I actually quite like the idea of the tunnel having multiple entry points through the north of the CBD but the only exits being before you reach Hoddle St so it will help remove traffic from the CBD, but not add to it.

Yep I was in there the other day and didn't think I was going to get out! :brickwall

It badly affects Nicholson Street at 5.00pm peak hour (which is where I drive home through). Disaster.

Nearly smashed last night with an impatient prick who decided to drive up the tram lines and turn left into Park Road, Carlton through the 'Keep Clear' space of the road.

according to todays herald sun, melbourne's poppulation could be 8 million in 2060. if i'm alive then i think it might be a sea change for the binmeister :rofl

would be nice to see what the liberals policy on public transport infrastructure is less than 4 weeks out from the state election.

This state election is being run the same as the federal. Don't say anything too big or bad, don't rock the boat.

If the Libs cannot win this in a landslide they should just shut up shop. The state is a shambles and Brumby will get back in.

The Libs have been criticised for suggesting a Doncaster Rail line.
And for wanting a refurb of Flinders Street station.
For me these are two no brainers, but the Libs can't sell the benefits and will allow the Brumby/Green vote to defeat them.

The refurb of Flinders Street should be a given. That place has the potential to be a iconic location. Surely we can do something similar to what happened at the old Spencer Street station. That place is a 1000 times better use of the public space and doesn't give the apperance of being a barren wasteland and also feels safer.

For me Flinders Street is one of the three biggest blights in the city. The other two being the Jolimont Railyards and the block on Flinders Street between King and Spencer Street on the city side.
