Maurice Rioli Jnr

Big call! Why?

A very BIG call, I know, Rensman.
No doubt I have gone early and been swept up in all the excitement of MRjr debut.
I was an avid fan of his father's, having watched him play. Possibly/probably the most mercurial player I have ever seen.
Guess I am just extrapolating on the genes/DNA in the family.
But there was something in the way he moved yesterday and the attack he had on the man that certainly reminded me of his father and also of Cyril.
It's easy to see why there is so much upside to young Maurice.
Once he's had a pre-season or two under his young belt and built a bit of a tank he will really flourish

It was a good debut. His pressure was superb but would still like to have seen him get a bit more footy.
I'd certainly play him again next week.

Agree, I’m hoping with natural progression he wins more footy and kicks more goals , as we’ve said plenty of time on his side

A couple of hard tackles, a chase down tackle and 1 goal is enough for today.

And his huge beaming smile at the final siren.

Enjoy your game MoJu
Nostradamus Baloo
You got the powerball numbers for this Thursday you can share with me?:)

If he hadve kicked that second goal late it would’ve really capped off a good debut. At least with this bloke u notice him chasing everytime the ball is in the fwd half.

Kids got a high cruising speed n blistering burst when he's hunting, n he hunts hard.
Spent a fair bit of the first half running around like a headless chook, but we had a lot of more experienced players not doing much better.

Simply gotta get games into him and a few of our other kids for the rest of this year and next. They all take some time to find their big boy games n we're gunna need a bunch of them ready to properly take over by the end of next year at latest.

Would have been brilliant if the assist for his first goal had come Daniel.
That will come Carners.
In a game not too far away, DRio streaming outta the backline and kicking it long to Moza who runs into an open goal

Daniel foolishly tried to square the ball late in the game to set Moju up for a shot. Completely hacked the kick, but we managed to scrimmage the ball deep for a goal anyway

If we play Turtle out the rest of the year, I can see him having a big one in one of them. Go The Turtle !!!

Foolishly in one way but wouldn’t it have been sensational if it’d paid off. Don’t think Dimma would mind really.
Coulda been like Marlions goal in GF19

Daniel is too easily out-marked against taller forwards. Still our best half-forward flanker. Would rank bout our number 5 on the half back line. Short and Stack are better defenders.

(Mansell improving and Houli.)

On the half-forward line, I have him well ahead of Aarts and Castagna, and could be good with Hugo on the other flank.

A triple premier "failure"?
Don’t agree, Dan has looked very very good at half back. No way we should be moving him at this stage

Ad another pre season and he should get even better in this department.

Very happy with his game , however still has a way to go around the goals , still just a kid though.
Yep, agree. Thought he’s was a little off with his reaction times, needs to get used to the speed of the game at senior level. Not a criticism of him, but he didn’t get involved enough, but that’s just inexperience imo

MRJ had a pretty fair debut but still has a lot to learn in a no doubt long career. What I did like from him was his enthusiasm, wiliness to work hard and be a teammate. An upgrade on Aarts

Geez he is quick.

One thing I noticed was sometimes the North players were caught off guard by his pre pressure, something we haven't seen as much as we used to from our small forwards this year.

kept chasing and chasing and has good acceleration. once he get's his anticipation and timing right when he gets used to the pace he'll nail alot of those tackles and it'll be a joy to watch.

He did create the type of pressure that Butler, Rioli and Castagna did in 2017 & 2018. Mainly through leg speed, being in the ball drop area and with a committed intent to tackle. Effort costs nothing and he gave that. As the game opened up, more ball winning/receiving chances opened for him - certainly should play again this week.
