I noticed this guy's name pop up in the goalkickers and best players for SA. Has anyone seen him play and could he be on our radar for our first pick?

Just having a look at a few of this guys YouTube clips from the 2009 AFL U18 Championships...

Trengove at #3 then Panos at #19 would be the dream.

yep lots to like about Panos, looks a true CHF to me, smart lead, good hands and brings others into the game

Another 192cm South Australian Full Forward that needs the ball delivered lace out, again.

:hihi

I'm in line with your thinking....

Like a Modra or a Burton... Or dare i say it a Hodges

i like Panos and think he will turn into a really good player. Although i don't know his personality type and this is a huge factor in a good player. If as you say he is only lace out forward.. ala Dunstall it would complement Morton and Jack quite well i think.. . a bit of x factor in Morton and then a leading forward in Panos..And then a 3rd option in Jack. I think that is a similar setup to Geelong of 2007

Mooney = Panos
Johnson = Morton
N. Ablett = Jack

Does anyone know if Panos has a bit of Mongral in him... If so i want him.. Yes he is a specialist forward but what if he turns out to be a Matty Lloyd or a Johnny Brown hmmmm would be ok with me and out of all the forwards in the mix i see him as the only one capable of that.

No more Sth Australian KPP please.

Schulz, Hughes, Holland, ........................... ffs :-\

Hughes and Shulz's both have the skills just lack the mental capacity

Holland started ok and his body let him down..

Maybe having Richo there had something to do with it as well

AND if they can play it doesn't matter where they come from

For me, it's not a matter of where they come from, it's just a matter of getting the right type.

The Miller/Wallace experiment of a 192cm lead up FF was a complete failure.

We need to be looking towards 195+cm strong overhead marking forwards who can get the ball, even when it is not kicked accurately.

You mean another Richo ?

Probably prefer a younger, more disciplined, better kicking & a more team oriented version.

Richo is merely one of many who have conformed to this type from all clubs over the years.

So John Butcher?

197cm, contested marking, team orientated version of Richo?

As said before, Butcher's kicking is the worry.

Butcher has been his height for 2 years now. If he'd just grown that tall, I'd consider his kicking flaws may be growth related.

But he's been 197cm for 2 years, and he's had his kicking flaw for all of the 2 years that I've seen him.

Personally, as said, I feel much stronger about:

Griffiths, Talia, Carlisle, McDonald, Casboult.

And below 195cm,

Temel & Daw.

Fair enough mate.

I just think we all made the mistake with Mitch Clark and Lance Franklin when they were to be number one draft picks, then they have a bad carnival or a bad second year and we forget how good they were, then they develop into what they can.

Last year Butcher was everyone's brightest prospect along with Scully. He was touted a a rare talent.

This season he started off well, then went into the Champs with minor injuries that disrupted him. He has then lost some form and his confidence has slipped.

Just like Clark and Franklin, getting him into an AFL environment and developing him, he could be anything. A return of confidence, a bit of body strenght, and better coaching. People should not discount him for us.

I hope he has a good draft camp, and tests well in all areas. Particularly his interview as I have heard he is a weird character. Whether that is special weird or stay away from weird, I do not know.

He is still very much in my calculations, and from what I gather, he is still in the clubs. These tall forwards with this much potential do not grow on tree's.

If his kicking is so bad then why is it when everyone links his goal kicking stats from last and this year it shows he's generally a pretty accurate kick for goal?

Richo's career stats, compated to some of the goal kicking greats, isn't that far off "pretty accurate" either

Good question.

Butcher's stats are as follows.
Remember that he very rarely wanders more than 30m out, yet his goalkicking stats over the last two years still remain around the 50-60% accuracy.

Peter Hudson mongrel punted his way into the record books, Butcher seems to score consistently as well, just doesn't score pretty. Like the look of Talia, has a touch of a young N. Voldt about him.
