Marriage Equality

Just so you're clear, you think marriage should be open to all relationships? Otherwise I'll throw the same label your way.

From my point of view whatever floats your boat so as long as you are not harming others. So that rules out pedophilia and bestiality for starters.

Such as? There is no "reason" that won't attract such accusations. Margaret Court anyone? As i said, the no voters should keep it to themselves cos there is alot of intolerance to alternate views.

Similar to Lee my place of work is distributing yes material to it's employees. Pathetic. If you vote no don't share this at work or you might well be unemployed. It's getting beyond ridiculous.

So you don't have a reason you can articulate, or you choose not to articulate it. You can fill in the survey anyway you want - that's your right as someone being surveyed by the ABS. But if you want to engage in debate around this, you better be able to state why you think it's a bad idea.

Margaret Court is probably not a good example for you to use as her statements about it being a gay conspiracy to steal your children were bigoted, ignorant and frankly bizarre.

Of course you might agree with her. If you do, say so.

Depends on what your definitions for those are I guess, but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt.

It would come down both parties in the relationship being able to give informed consent, so that rules out kids and puppy dogs.

The animal relationship doesn't have to be sexual. Couldn't a person call their dog their wife if they want to? How does it affect you at all?

Informed consent for kids though is the right way to look at it.

I thought about marrying my dog but he politely declined.

Bigot. I thought you believed in equality?
How can he be a bigot? He wanted to marry his dog but HIS dog declined. I'd be pointing the finger at his dog....

That's interesting. I've arranged to care for a friend's dog if she pre-deceases it. Provision has also been made for a large amount of money for doing so. I wonder if relatives could successfully contest the will. Would the same rules be followed as for a married couple, a defacto couple, an interfamily couple.

Dunno Rosy but I'll guarantee there's a bunch of lawyers willing to represent the dog.

If it's in her will then it should be OK. Harder to contest at least.

Dog says I spend too much time arguing on PRE and not enough time walking him so fair enough.

Thought it was just a yes or no vote. Not interested in debating as it's quite ridiculous that it's going to a public vote. Waste of time and money. Just giving the no voters some advice to avoid the abuse.

I hate the entire thing. The waste of money. The weak government. The unsolicited phone calls. The bullying. The people judging others and virtually telling them what they should believe and vote. The intolerance of other viewpoints. Virtually all of this I've experienced has come from the Yes camp unfortunately.

Yep. Alot will vote no because of this.

Let me guess, a bit of Bronski Beat?

I laughed.

strong believer in equality, but generally speaking, and its only my experience, gay people have their music taste in their arse. Scissor Sisters, Ani De Franco, cheesy tinny club anthems. Got quite a few gay friends, swapping music is not one of our passtimes.

It's a contrived ABS opinion survey, so it's not even a vote, and it's a huge non-binding waste of money to boot, agreed. You can thank Toned Abs and Malcolm for that.

As Ant said, it's not a vote. It is a massive expensive and pointless survey conducted by the ABS to allow the PM to pretend he doesn't have a tin ear for Tony and his right-wing cohort. It has no weight nor bearing on the state of the legislation. It may, if the yes vote is high enough, force the government's hand.

The debate is on here, PRE. You can choose to take part or not. If you declare that you are voting "no" people are going to be interersted in why. Much like the joke of a postal survey there is no requirement to participate.

They have pretty good taste in techno/ trance in my experience. They used to throw great raves back when I was interested in the scene in the 90s.

These days, Chapel St 'Poof Doof' attracts a lot of straight connoisseurs of the genre from what I can gather.

I'd be interested in binmans opinion on this.
