Majak Daw

You haven't seen him play have you?

Only the 'shorts' Shamekha. There are plenty of others more qualified than me to comment (see Phantom's comments) . IHO he looks to be an amazing athelete. Raw but has potential there with some solid coaching, as a late pick.

I'd be happy to take him as a late pick, just don't think drafting him with a view to him being a ruckman is a sound idea.
I'm inclined to agree with NZtiger.

And he doesn't look that much different to Natanui as a junior, to be honest. He is probably worth the risk.

Awesome name, too. ;D

P.S How you been anyway, Dawg - how's QLD treating you?

The thing i think he has in common with Nat is height and agility. Nat is a lot bigger built. With Majak being Sudanese he will find it hard to add the weight he needs to be a marking forward, hence my baulking at him.. i would much prefer we pick up Panos or Butcher.

Thats my thought.

He could only be a ruckman, he is too much work to turn into a forward.

I take your point about how skinny he is but he looks a good bet to me. He looks even more freakish thann Natanui, athletically speaking.

I dunno if you saw Natanui at 17 years old; he was similarly all arms and legs, without much footy ability, but you could just tell he would be special with some intensive coaching.

It will be interesting to see where he goes in the draft. If he was still around at our 3rd pick, I'd snap him up - particularly if we get that #44 from Brissy.

For me we have enough problems turning kids who can already play footy into AFL standard, but to then get a kid that needs that much work... hmmm i don't know about that..

But maybe a rookie

The key is, if you take more then three picks a year you can justify taking a punt on the Majak Daw's of the world. After 40 he would be in the frame.

here here scoop. only seen a few highlight reels on this kid. but why not take a punt on such raw athletic ability. but as you say in the second half of the draft when you have plenty of picks.

Aren't you the one that is always going on about how we need to upgrade the skill level of the team.

Now you are advocating taking a player that has obvious skill deficiency..

Hmmm ???

I see your point Shamekha, but agree with Claw on this. I think it all comes down to how well we can cover our bases earlier in proceedings. Pick 3 will certainly yield a gem (However I hope the club goes with Trengove/Martin/Tapscott over Butcher) and atleast another 3-4 solid prospects with some extra picks we have successfully traded for (fingers crossed), then the risk is reduced. If it doesn't work out than we try again next year, but at that point in proceedings I doubt we are likely to find much better.

You would probably expect that in any other year he'd be picked up in the rookie draft, but as the depth 'thins out' in this particular batch his worth is higher, and will be gone by the end of the ND. If the club has any interest in him, I suspect it will have to act in the 4th round, if he hasn't already been taken. Someone with such pace at his height, who tackles, shepherds, can also mark and seems to have a better kicking action on him than most at his height (especially on the run when he is leaving everyone else for dead) already has plenty of upside. He probably needs help with the positional aspect of his game, but he's not alone at that age. I think he could make an impact.

I recommend having a look at this if you haven't already seen it, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ZYr4YqzYK0

Sorry. :-[

1 thing i will add about him, he has the most room for improvement being new to the game. And knowing some of the Sudanese boys around Dandenong, they're tough boys with no fear..

But i do see your point in it being a shallow draft and so he may go higher.. i hope he does well though, its good to see these boys having a go and doing well. Is an untapped section of society that gets alot of bad press for the wrong reasons and poor understanding by the average joe blow in the street..

Would certainly be a good PR exercise for the club.

Love the thought of the Tiges getting in on the ground floor with new immigrant groups like this and building a new base of followers.

There seems to be heaps of hype about him, he was featured on that TAC show again yesterday. I doubt he will last to the 4th round.

Someone will take a punt.

Whatever happens with him it's great to see other nationalities getting involved.

He looks a mighty impressive athlete out there.

Here, here!

lets pick up majak daw

majak daw looks a very exciting ruck prospect. Runs like wind huge leap and big engine. Appears to have footy smarts and has big appetite for second efforts.check out his highlight package on youtube. We need players with flair and this kid is definately worth seriously considering
