Lynch !!

seems to me that teams are really targeting Lynch with lots of off the ball niggle.....seems like a really frustrated player at times. Without Towner in the forward line or Caddy for longer periods, there's no one else making the opposition defenders look over their shoulders and Lynch cops it all.

I reckon that is true since he gave away a few frees to Sicily. Teams would have noted.

I really don’t understand what RFC see in this guy.
Always seems to be out of position or just sits at the back of the pack hoping for a cheap one.

from Gestapo Gill's website:

Hardwick also said star forward Tom Lynch, a physical target of North's all game, could have received more help from the umpires.

Dumpires don't give a *smile*...

Fwd line just looks so congested. Teams sling shot the other way and brown and wood getting themselves either one out or into space. All our smalls are contesting for marks... would like to see him one out leading out of the square. If teams zone off their players to cover lynch then we need to be smarter and use the short hit up options.

At present, Lynch looks like a very over-rated player. by the RFC. Maybe the most over-rated player in the competition. For me, the biggest concerns are his not playing in front enough, his apparent lack of being able to read the flight of the ball in the air and his apparent lack of physical "presence" in contests. I would be surprised if there are full backs in the AFL who would lose any sleep regarding having to play on Lynch the next week. I can't see him getting any better this season. I remember him being a significantly better player when he was at GC.

The much needed improvement from him could well come next season following a full pre season training regime. We have to hope (or pray) like crazy that he will be able to significantly improve for next season. For me, it is pretty disheartening/demoralising to think that he will be playing like he is now for the next 5 years or more. He didn't have any decent pre season this year and as many players have stated over the years, a good pre season is vital to having a good season. As we all know, he had a knee reconstruction last year and historically it has been seen that players who have had a knee reconstruction generally don't get back to their best form or near their best form until the 2nd season after they have had the operation.

Hard for Lynch when the forward line is overflowing with opposition players.

What I saw was two and three on him all night long.

I agree with 8 ball's thoughts, there should be a least one or two smalls leading leaving lynch in the middle with both smalls doubling back if the ball goes over their heads.

Does anyone think he would’ve been a better player at Collingwood?

Pretty much any player on our list would be a better player at Colonwood.

Lynch would be thinking to himself why did I choose the Tigers at this point. Its clear apart from Dusty, Stack and one or two others this team has usually has no *smile* idea how to kick to a forward.

Cant expect Lynch to do it all having 3 defenders hanging off him. Where are our 2 loose forwards?
Maybe he should change his name to Brown and wear number 50 he'd get free kick after free kick if any defender came close to him

Gee this talk of 3 players on him at all times does not reflect the true situation. If he has 3 players on him we should have two free to get the crumbs etc.Fact is his marking ability is woeful for his size.At the moment I would rather have Townsend play his role because he can take a good mark and smash packs.

last couple of posts fit with my thoughts. Lynch double/triple teamed most of the time so why aren't we looking for our spare players? where are they? we seemed to bomb it in a lot and the Roos were mopping it up despite us (supposedly) having loose men who ought to be leading or at least crumbing. I reckon Docklands messes with our heads and we hate it there, so much so that our adaptation to it fails.

I think he's done okay, so far, considering. Something to keep in mind is, he's a very different player from JR, so the team needs to be able to play to a different set of strengths. Jack and Tom are both very good kicks - Tom might be a tad longer I think. They can both take a mark, but Jack has more of a leap and more of an ability to twist and manoeuvre his way into one, out of relative nowhere.

I have always rated Jack very highly, so much so I'd put him before his cousin, notwithstanding all the accolades. Simply because he's a better kick than Nick was, more reliable, so the momentum loss at a key moment doesn't occur as often - Nick was better around the ground, admittedly. These are just examples, but remember that in BOTH the 2017 GF, AND last year's horrific PF effort, Jack was outstanding - about the only one you can say that about.

Anyway my point is, I've seen enough so far, to consider Lynch worth the bucks. If we could ever get those two running as they could be together, it'd be pretty devastating I'd think. And yea, Lynch needs some more time, and the team needs more time with him.

You would think so, but it used to happen all the time with Richo, and no one on our side ever went to the unmarked players.

Yes but Richo could take regular contested marks, and Jack does, and Caddy does, but not Lynch.

Nice story but last year Townsend in 10 games had just 4 contested marks, 2 in his first game, most times zero. In his last 10 games Lynch has taken 19. Let's not get silly about it.

Full pre-season will see him more mobile next year and to rotate with Jack up the ground to create space in the F50.
Right now is limited due to fitness and plays deep hence the defense double and triple back.

He’s a million dollar decoy unless he can get fit or we improve and structure and strategy.

Point is he played 5 games took 14 marks and kicked 16.2 in 2017,so he can do it.Last year I believe he was played under restraint given how well the team performed. This year we have injury gaps to fill.Play him in the pocket.Caddy FF and Lynch wide on a flank. We need to be creative now,not set on formula.
