Losing interest ?

Been saying this for at least 15 years... love the tigers. don't love the game.

I can't sit down and watch a non-Richmond game for 4 quarters without distraction (excluding finals). Haven’t been able to for many years. Friday nights I’ll usually be at the pub with mates and the game is on in the background. When I’m at home and a game is on, I’ll have it on on my tablet while I am doing other stuff. So I usually have it on more often than not, but I am not focused on it. I'm more interested in my multi than the game.

But I can never miss going to a Richmond game. i will move heaven and earth to get to games. that is just how i am built. Especially during the COVID era when you can't predict what will happen from one week to the next.

The commentators are at the top of my pet hates.

The barracking by the likes of Huddo, McGuire et al; the arrogance mixed with buffoonery from clowns like BT; the general lack of insightful commentary (during a game).

A lot of it is cringeworthy and as you have stated comes across as amateurish.

i never, ever listen to the commentary. it’s always muted. always.

Media is the root of 99% of issues. Firstly created the golden shackles the AFL is now bound to, waaaay too much coverage to saturation point and things just being made up to try to be relevant in a niche industry , then this kills off the characters of the game as individuals go “this isn’t worth the hassle” and clubs go “this person is a risk to our brand”
Self perpetuating issue....

I know one thing.

That is I wont be giving a stuff who wins the flag this year now we arent in it and the Maggots cant.

Ideally the Sooks fail again though.

Doubt I will even be paying attention by then.

I'm with you zips. If we cant win it then I hope the Doggies do.

They are the least offensive out of all the teams left in the race.

Just hope Geesook dont win it. Nothing worse than Dangerflop being a Premiership player. :vomit

I forgot to mention that the genuine talent is spread so thinly over so many teams.
This is quite correct, look at my side ( the cats) seriously is Henderson Hawkins Touhy Selwood etc etc, playing better footy now than 6 years ago?, hell no. Things is they can still play AFL becuase the "athletes" can run but cant play footy, The stanadar for what players get paid is a disgrace

When I was living outside Australia I had pommy friends who tried to get me involved in watching Rugby Union. There are things I really like about the game but ultimately what puts me off is that I just can't understand the rules. Some of them are so technical that when a penalty is called the explanation is really difficult to comprehend.

The thing is I am starting to feel this way about Aussie Rules. There are decisions made in games that make no sense to me at all and it has made me feel differently about the game. This is not the only reason but it's certainly part of it.

I actually forgot about the game last night and someone told me what happened during the day today. That's a change for me where I would at least follow the scores

I'm all for this. Could even trial play-on for backward kicks (unless in F50).

jeez, how come you blokes have gone all Steven Hocking?

If I was gonna reform the game, I'd make umpires pass a test to see if they are *smile* s or not.

if they are, jam the whistle up their *smile* and make them work the Saturday night shift in Parliament House.

good post. I used to make fun of my Rugger friends when they didn't know the rules, and now I struggle for words to explain ours.

Well the AFL has lost interest in us, with new fixturing out, another two Sunday time slots which will make it 3 from 4 if you include the Collingwood game.
That said we don't deserve Prime Time but the AFL enjoying screwing us with all these Sunday games ain't ideal.
