Little things that annoy you....

While we're on the topic of ex-footballers' grammar in their commentary ... how about one D.Frawley and his "he should have went the other way" ....

::)

Minor issue but if he's getting paid to commentate, you'd think someone would pick him up on it.

Not keen on the increasing use of "myself" when "me" is correct.

eg Could you see Jack or myself if you would like a ticket to the footy.

Forget about Jack....you would just say : Could you see me if you would like a ticket to the footy.

Some people just don't like using the "me" word.

Why forget about Jack? Options are sometimes good. I'm not sure of the grammar rules being raised on here and don't think they really matter enough to be annoyed about. Shouldn't the above sentence have a question mark? ( and also some manners) I am a bit of a stickler for good manners.

1. It iseasier to determine the correct pronoun if you separate each pronoun into its own sentence.
Could you see Jack..... or Could you see me.........

Isn't it better to indicate there's an option in case the person has a preference though?

The point is that if you give an option, an increasing number of people use 'myself 'instead of 'me'........Jack or myself (WRONG) instead of Jack or me. (RIGHT).

Myself is being misused........ it needs to follow 'I'. eg "I did it myself."

It doesn't really matter that much. It just annoys me when pretentious people appear to want to avoid using 'me'.

Not so much an annoyance but really pisses me off is people who think a natural disaster is a tourist event. And more so if told they can't go through then accept what you are told and not go through.

Not only that why do these people think it ok to drive in the way of emergency vehicles.

I'm on the freeway, which is narrowed due to roadworks, no shoulders, barriers each side. I'm doing 100, maybe 105, which is probably a shade quick for the situation. A procession of semis and B-doubles pass me in the right lane, they'd be doing 110-115. Speed limit is varying between 80 (roadwork) and 100. No margin for error. It not good. Happens all the time.

In that sentence it should be: Could you see Jack or I if you would like a ticket to the footy.

Sorry Evo, I don't agree.

It should be 'me'.

What about if you swapped Jack for he in that sentence?

"Could you see he or me if you would like a ticket to the footy"

It's the same thing. It doesn't sound correct. He or I, or Jack or I

If you take out the "Jack or" part, it leaves:

"Could you see I if you would like a ticket to the footy" - clearly incorrect. It should read:

"Could you see me or Jack if you would like a ticket to the footy".

Removing either of the options still leaves the sentence correct.

Well yeah. But the whole point of saying I is because there is a third party involved.

The term 'man up'. When I was a kid it meant make sure you had an opponent covered.
