Kane McAuliffe

Should never have been the sub. He is too good to waste playing him for a 15 minutes when he can influence the game for four quarters

His aerobic capacity isn't big enough yet to back up from a 5 day break. Against Essendon in the 4th he was clearly gassed (I mentioned to my daughter about halfway through the 4th how gassed he looked at the ground), last week similar. He'll be good to go for the Hawks game off a 9 day break, but the Adelaide one was too many in too few games IMO. Load management 101.

His time this match was managed for sure. I liked as soon as he came on he threw his size around in a boundary throw in. We desperately need his bigger body in the middle. His kick to Bolton was great vision and gutsy - a half decent bounce and it was a goal

Not wanting to start a new thread , however I see Kmac2 as the most likely to be a long time AFL player of our kids , think Gibcus would have been without doubt , however he is such an unknown now . Anyway over the past few weeks we have seeen some very good signs at both AFL and VFL that we have some quality coming through ( shhh don’t tell the media) , big question for me and only time will tell is are we developing cubs that will form the nucleus of a premiership unit or are the majority good VFL and not quite up to AFL ?

Mckauliffe as sub made sense if it was a management thing.

Reduced AFL time on Thursday night….
Play VFL on Friday night…..
8 day break till next game.

Did he play VFL on Friday night?

No he didn't. Is he allowed to? It made no sense at all. If it was a management thing because he doesn't have the stamina thing going then 12% game time, playing 1 game in 4 weeks a few weeks ago doesn't help the cause. Needed to be brought on much earlier. Dow played 67% game time, Sonsie 65%. Why couldn't he have been managed like that?

It was very important that Yze keep a card up his sleeve to close out that game. A midfield rotation.

The softest cuddle in football is the sub role. Bringing on a player player who has not spent a penny when everybody else has been running for 90 minutes gave us an edge. As planned.

McAuliffe got the cuddle. Got a confidence boost. And was important in winning the game. Good job.

Tracking nicely. Only complaint from me is a tad slow off the mark. Pace is fine. Knows how to get it.

Imagine if he plays full games for a whole season, will win the Brownlow by 30 votes
we can't throw him in for full games so early in the season, he will burn out. He getting his chances in the past 2 months, with the bye, the second half will increase his game time. I believe, he will get better by each season.
