Kane McAuliffe

He looked to have a good all round game to me.

Reckon you are spot on with Dow, another disappointing performance where he doesn't really influence the game and he should be gone. I've rarely seen any VFL games where Dow has stood out like McAuliffe did today.
Surely with Prestia and Hopper both out there is a spot for both? We need to start getting a look at what our future midfield will look like

A mile above VFL level. I could not understand how he was rated so low pre-draft and was stoked we snagged him at 40. Looks like he will be a long term A grade mid for us.

Out of the 44 blokes running around today,

He was twice the footballer as the 2nd best bloke,

And that was probably Sonz!!!

It wasnt a vfl midfield he was bullying,

It was first rounders, AA's, from his own draft cohort.

He also physically imposed himself on seasoned journeymen. Demolished james tsitas like he was an u14.

All the physios fight to rub him

Haven’t seen a VFL debut like that from one of our draftees since Jack Graham way back in 2017.

Forget the slow burn, needs time to develop, it’s still early types. Good players show it early and often.

Amazing what happens when you recruit genuine midfielders instead on trying to covert flankers to midfielders.

Was that round 1 VFL?

Yeah, way beyond 'above the level'

RFC clearly know theyve found one.

Ive got a few footy miles on the clock and an eye for nuance (yes, and a volcanically fertile imagination),

And i could see in the body language, vibes, interactions with teammates and staff,

That they know theyve probably found a citizen clayton oliver who will debut next week, and go onto captain the club.

Theres no lid going on this kid.

Hes a Real deal steal with sex appeal would keep his feet on a banana peel

Pure mid too. I think he debuts as ruck rover next week, and stays there for 250 weeks

I don’t reckon he wasted 1 of the 31 disposals he had. Very neat user of the footy, super impressive. We’ve gone with guys like Baker (as Yze alluded to in his presser) and probably Ross (since Hopper is now out) to play more inside minutes this week, but gee you’d have to think McAuliffe was close. If Hopper is out for a few weeks he must be in the equation for next week. I’d also stick Sonsie in as a high half forward with some midfield minutes, some of his kicks inside 50 were delightful, we need as many class users in the team as we can get

Combine results don't really mean much if you are not a footballer but now that we can see that the kid can play these attributes certainly wont hurt:

20m sprint: fifth quickest overall with a time of 2.930 seconds.

Standing vertical jump: fifth 77cm

Running vertical jump: fifth 95cm

Earlier in the combine he was the first Croweater across the line in the 2km time trial, finishing in six minutes and 26 seconds,. (**6:17 is where the top 10 capped out so I assume Macca's time stacks up pretty well there too).

Graham broke his ankle and didn’t play his first VFL game until July.

yeah both come in next week.

amidst all that dynasty stuff,

I'd lost touch with the joy of discovery, of dreaming.

whodda thought it find it at Metricon, in march?

Is this The People's Stadium some kind of Utopia?

I feel like a crazy kid with a dream again.

#9 next year

agree.

the kid served his apprenticeship, paid his dues, bidded his time, developed slowly, learnt a role, understood how we want to play

by about the 18 minute mark of the first quarter.

*smile* im happy.

Young Kane hunts the ball, hits packs at full speed, tackles, kicks searingly with his left, puts teammates in space with hands, leads, works hard, is always where the ball is and where its going next.

trading down into 2024 four (4) times and then grabbing him at 40 could be Matt Clarkes finest moment.

Haha yea it was great watching our young guys strut their stuff. I thought Kaleb Smith had a strong second half! Had a few out too who will be playing tomorrow and Juddy is an emergency so didn’t play. Coulthard a mysterious absence and hopefully Bauer is back next week. Definitely more exciting kids than the media give us credit for
