Jake King

We might have been Neighbours, I was in that general area until my early 20s.
Was a bit too young to be around those underworld figures in the area, but we had the "3047 Boys", "Black Dragons" and "Fordgate Wogs" (they were the gang names - I'm not being disparaging). I can identify with Jake too.
My brother made nunchuks and baseball bats in woodwork class. By the time I grew up, we made stools and coffee tables in woodwork...different times!
Before or after Eddie McGuire lived there?

Wasn't Eddie out on a fancy scholarship somewhere instead of Broady high?
If I remember correctly Eddie went to Gaegan (don’t quote me on the spelling) College which was semi local. Mum used to see his mum and dad at St Dominic’s mass every Sunday long after Eddie left the area and I think he’s sister still teaches in the area.

Yep i was doing the computers for a couple of Priests at St Dominic's and his parents i was told were regular parishioners there. I lost touch with them as they were missionaries and one went somewhere near Kalgoorlie , one to the Tiwi Islands and another was moved back to Fiji.

Same area different time I think. I’m in my mid 50’s now and the main gangs of the area in my day were the Broady Boys, Lebanese Tigers and the JA (Justin Avenue) Jack's.

The last train home to Broadmeadows on a Friday night became famous for a while and only the super brave would ride it. People from all over would attend the station to watch or participate in the fights.

Not sure what age Eddie started there, but both he and his older brother won scholarships to the Christian Brothers in St Kilda.

I gotta say.... this was pretty funny!
I just love the fact that he *smile* hated Collingwood as much as I do!
Jake reckons this is the first time he's ever fully spoken about Wallace's sacking

Best podcast I've seen. Push Up open and honest. I loved the little bloke and still reckon he deserved better. Was told he'd be dropped and took it on the chin compared to others who sook. I wish he could continue on his thoughts about Dimma when they first met at his locker thinking he was delisted. The part when he (finally) told Plough off with bad words and yet Plough didn't react in a negative way is a bit strange I must admit....and when did Sheedy / Bummers have pick 25 to draft him??

Agreed.
Loyal. Has his own standards and principles. His mates are who he trusts and he’d trust you with his kids. Pity, the poor bastard who ever did the dirty on him or his family.
Tells it how it is and doesn’t understand why others wouldn’t or couldn’t. Luckily he doesn’t post on here :giggle: ;)
Great podcast. Still love the little villain.

Would've loved to hear more on how he and Duz got along.

I never bother reading books, but this is one person I would definitely buy a bio to read.

I think he started at Therry (boys 7-10?) and may have gone to Geogeghan (co-ed 11 &12) College for a year. I thought he end up at Melb High, but the brothers sounds right.

I’m getting old. I thought Therry Penola and Geogeghan College was one and the same. Obviously I was neither smart or wealthy enough to attend either.
I did play a few games for Thierry Penola 5ths (warriors) in the amos when I was in my late 30’s. Trying to hang onto my youth but all it did was confirm how old I’d become 😝

Geez what a cluster the club was then.

No wonder the wheels fell right off.

Push Up took a lot of shitt for his mates and his team.

Its why Tigers Fans loved the little bastard.

Persistence against all adversity and he faced more than anyone.

I wasn't much of a fan at all when he arrived on the scene but geez the lttle fella gave his all and brought some much needed balls to a bunch of sissys :))

Respect.

I went to public schools as well, the neighbours were fancy though. Their kids went private, the daughters went to Sancta Sophia...which was near Therry somewhere.
Mum wouldn't let me play footy. My brother(s) played for Coolaroo with some family friends kids...My eldest brother got belted/knocked out at a centre bounce in under age. She refused to let them play again after that. I'd sneak into school footy by saying i was playing soccer...even that was physically dangerous. Win the match or win the fight. Just like Kingy said.

Coolaroo Rovers, they were a tough bunch. Huge buggers even at under 14’s

I was his classe’s Prefect at school - so 5 years older than him. He was such a little punk - a fat little kid that bullied even me around a lot (and I’m 6’4). He had such a strong personality - leadership qualities galore. A memorable kid that’s for sure.
