Jack Gunston

Haha, these threads make me laugh. If he was playing for us most would be heaping him with praise. I wonder how much people have seen of him? Reasonable high draft pick and likely type and would fit into a role with us well. Was Adelaide only shining light in many of their losses hence why they're so p!ssed off. Palming off duds like Edwards isn't going to magically get you a promising kid.

Shows great promise for a 19 year old, how people can write off a guy (a tall no less) at this age beggars belief. Has shown more than Lynch from GC and our own Griffiths, would be worth a look at the right price.

That's all good and well but he plays the same roles as Riewoldt & Vickery.

We have the key forwards. Gunston is a old school full forward playing out of the square.

He might make it but he is not something that we are in need of.

I wouldn't sell the farm but if he formed part of a Maric, Edwards, Nason trade then he represents solid insurance if Griffiths falls short of expectations. It's all probably pie in the sky stuff anyway as North or Hawthorn appear to be the likely destinations.

Dont think anyone has written him off, just questioned how for he can get. From leysy's albeit limited viewing its a fair question mark.

Leysy would take Lynch 100 times out of 100 ahead of Gunston FWIW. (not much).

In any event & as most have said, we have far more pressing needs to trade for. (Ruckman, midfielders, small/medium forwards etc) than key forwards who always come at a high premium trade wise.

He's quick, got good hands, accurate kick and decent on ground level for his height (when I first saw him I thought he was 188-189cmish).

You've certainly pidgeon holed the kid at a young age there (19), SCOOP. We need more lead up types anyways (maybe stop us bombing every time we get the ball) and I see no reason why he couldn't play or compete in the 3rd tall role or even as a HFF. Wouldn't just solely be relying on injury prone Griffiths. If you could get a decent deal for him you'd definitely take it. I suspect though that many teams would outbid what we'd be willing to pay so doubt he will be coming here. Reckon his true value lies in between our first and second pick. Just found the tyre deflating on him quite funny when we know people would be massively pumping and hyping him up if he wore Y&B. Edwards. :hihi

We've needed lead up forwards for quite a while. He could fit the bill.

I'm not sure that Gunston is coming to Tigerland though. If, as reported, he had an eleventh hour change of heart, that probably means someone faxed a contract that he liked the look of to his manager and he made the decision to jump. The days of a player walking out on a club and going wherever are pretty much over. We will find out over the coming weeks that he is spoken for.

They mentioned in the Adelaide call that when he was playing for his SANFL team he played at whichever end the wind was blowing too such was his dominance.

Has showed more than Griffiths.

Seems like a similar size and style of player to our Jack, only not as good. Not really an area we need to fill right now.

I would rather we went after other pressing needs, like a ruckmen. Just because a good young player is available doesn't mean we should be chasing him, trade for positional needs and draft for talent.

Still seems to be the fashion nowadays.

Yep someone's been in his ear late on.

Maybe someone from the RFC hinted an offer after our recent win against them. Who knows. He must've seen some future (in us) when playing against us especially as we came from behind to win.

This I agree with. Griffiths has a lot of wraps on him for bugger all.

Tall , fast,great leap,great mark,booming accurate kick,footy smarts,.

Nothing there to like i suppose.

If it wern't for his shoulder,he would have gone top 5 in his draft.

To a certain extent I wonder whether DMac will end up taking that mobile marking forward role, along with Dusty/Cotch etc resting there.

At any rate we have more pressing trade needs so I don't think trading for Gunston fits our strategy for this year.

Has shown squat in the afl games he has played. I know injuries and all that, no one is suggesting he gets the flick.
