Ivan Soldo

Big Ivy was great in the first half against the clear best ruck going around , if not the best player . Think that half will have our match comitee thinking hard how we play Soldo and Nank .

I’d definitely be keeping him , however his trade value went through the roof on the weekend
We trade him away for what?
A club will never give us a 1st rounder therefore he needs to stay.
I spoke to him he dosent want to go interstate. He defiantly wasn't going to GWS.
He is a 10 times better ruckman then Nakas

I must see things differently to most it seems

I dont see Nank & Soldo working together long term and Soldo will eventually leave once out of contract and a free agent with a club offering him $500k a year to move which we wont match

Nank & Ryan are a better combination going foward but Ryan wont be ready for another 18 months and we have an emergency backup in Miller if Soldo leaves

Also worried about Soldo's knee having to carry 110kgs after the bad knee reco is worrying , He has never been a mobile player with great agility and both Nank & Soldo are similar types

Ideally our 2nd Ruck should be a competent foward which neither are that
If we get a pick 20-30 we take it if not we will get that as compo the following year and hopefully Ryan is ready to dominate

Would have more sense to have rucked Ryan in tandem with Soldo on Sunday.
Maybe, T2011. I'm ok with Ryan doing time in the Magoos.

As I see it Gawn destroyed us at the fall in the second half. And was cagey at jump time, outfoxing Ivan in the main. Even though Nank would've been flogged in the air he would not have allowed Gawn to rove his own ball a dozen times. Probably not at all.

The other problem was that our mids were flogged. They should have been winning that loose. Or getting there.

Im ok with how Sunday went, Gawns better. When he plays like he did in the second half, he’s better than every ruck this century bar Dean Cox. Can’t expect our guy to challenge that.
I just watched it again, scoop and Soldo was better for longer than I thought.

That said, Gawn went apeshit in the final quarter.

English is talented, but soft as butter. He will be having nightmares about our two brutes
Good.
When the GWS ruckman ( Briggs ) upped the ante in the last quarter with his physicality, English couldn’t compete.

I reckon soldo compliments Nank perfectly as he has height which helps our clearance game that Nank usually lacks. Add in Ryan who can kick goals as a pinch hit forward they all do the job on a round by round basis IMO.
this is the way to go. This should solve the other tall. Ryan, Nank & Soldo rotation in ruck and forward line. Miller tried, but was not competitive. The moment the switch.... gawn to miller, gawn got ontop.

hit outs were 11-8 in the last. Clearances were 16-7. Gawn had 7 of his own. Hit outs werent the problem. Clearances were.

As you say, that doesnt happen with a fit Nank.

On Gawn. When he opens his kit bag before a game three umpires get out of it and kiss his knee. In a very dignified and orderly fashion.

In game, if Gawn dives on the ground they give him a free kick, three votes and a band aid.

We all saw that when Gawn pulled a shooting star in the first quarter and got none of that he sooked for an hour.

Who could imagine that Gawn’s closest allies would turn on him so viciously? Not Max the world’s most recent hipster Gawn. No risk that *smile* would burn his mouth with the coffee.

Soldo was matching the boob for 90 minutes.

Having deduced that his allies were not paying frees Maxie of the brand new onesie fouled relentlessly. Notably face palming Soldo at least twice at ball up. Gawn was walking over the line, blocking and then palming. This allowed him to keep his feet and rove. The advantage was very important in curbing Soldo’s influence.

Soldo has no pull over the Fanboiz and was ignored by them after about quarter time. He was fouled every second stoppage. No intervention by the Gawn Chorus.

I guess none of us can complain when Gawn gets the 3 votes. But his opponent can feel aggrieved by the poor reffing.

Moe, Larry, Curly and Shemp doing their best.

Champions lift when a game is on the line.
Gawn is a champion.
So is Nankervis.
Ivan not so much.

I'm not sure I'd have kept Soldo in with Nank returning. That said I hope that we can work over English.
Just worry that it might make us a bit slow at Marvel.

Yeh, I'm worried if we do not mark the ball when going forward we will get obliterated on the rebound.

Gonna be a lot of work for our smalls and mediums to keep the pressure on the dogs ball movement.

I’d agree if Lynch was playing, but we can plonk either of them in the goal square. You’d think Jones would have to go either of them which hopefully results in a better matchup for Jack.

I doubt they'll play O'Donnell (first year rookie b) on Jack (Jones most likely will man Jack), he will most likely get the job on the resting ruck more often than not you would think. Dale or Richards to go to Bauer?

Define Champion?
Gawn is not a champion - he's a very good player, who got on top in the 4th quarter

Nank is a long way from being a champion as well
Soldo is a plodder
Don’t even know where to start to answer that.
Gawn multiple AA including captain. Best ruckman in the league since Cox.
Nankervis 3 time Premiership player who lifted in every final we played and dragged us over the line in a few of those.
Now joint Captain of our club. At the very least champion of our club.
Soldo still young in ruck terms.
