Ivan Soldo

Agreed however I would only trade him for an early second rounder.
We’ve done the hard yards. He’s mature, seasoned and has a Premiership medallion. And he gives our developing midfielders first use in the magoos which enables them to display their wares.
Ryan and Colina then able to develop their forward craft switching to on ball for short bursts to build their stamina.
I’m still bamboozled about this trade.
I would give him another 2 years before any other player is ready to be a like for like replacement to Nanks should he go down with injury .
I dont think we would get an early 2nd rounder for Soldo

Whilst we all love him and enjoy having him on the list i doubt he is rated very highly in the league
pick #35-#50 would be about his trade range

Disagree with your ranking.
No player in that range is a walk up first 22 starter. Especially a big brute at 206cm.
Nankervis being selected Captain sealed his fate.
In either 2019 or 2020 it even appeared that he was actually our preferred first ruck before he got injured.
He would also probably walk into 10 other teams as first ruck.
He’s worth #25-30 IMHO. Because they’re hard to find

I like Soldo, but late in the season, even when he was fit, and we had concerns over Nankervis’ fitness we still elected to play Nankervis wth the inexperienced Miller as his back up, and leave Soldo in the VFL.

Clearly available and gettable

there are many teams that need a ruckman Saints , Blues , Hawks , Cats , Port just to name a few
But nobody even is asking.

St Kilda aren’t playing soldo over Marshall.
Blues aren’t playing Soldo over De Koning or even Pittonet.

I don’t mind Soldo, and he’s come a ridiculously long way from when he first landed with us but if we can use him for something of value for us and he’s happy to go we should consider it.

He’s only 18 months younger than Nank. Yeah we need a ruck back up but many times have gotten by with strugglers.

Thats exactly my point though

He is not #1 Ruckman at any club , Not even Hawthorn and nobody will give up a decent pick for a backup break glass Ruckman
If he was not on our list would we trade #31 for Soldo this year ?

I would say not

Great stuff.
Welcome to The Hollywood Brothers, Quentin and Dennis.
And more importantly great to keep Ivan's cousin Ivan.
Quality of the man (if reports are true) he offered himself up to break deadlock and get the deal done.
What a Richmond Man.
Lovely work, Mustacca.
Hoping he finally gets himself right post that ridiculous injury caused by Porkins.
Go you Tiges.

Ralph talked about the Soldo deal being separate to the Hopper deal. Could we still be looking at shipping him but working in his worth?

Still reckon he will be better for it in 2023 coming of his major injury takes time atleast a year.

I was queuing alongside the big guy at the Coles checkouts last night - he looked very relaxed, like the decision was made.
glad it was the right one!
