FWIW "Mr Clarkson" actually taught at my old school in the early to mid 90s while he was still playing and a nicer bloke you couldn't meet...at least in my experience. He taught grade 5 but had a lot to do with the whole junior school (years 5-7). Always had plenty of time for the kids and I don't remember him ever losing his temper once...and I assure you some of us students and the classes/year levels as a whole he had to deal with would've pushed some Buddhist monks over the edge. Pretty good sense of humour too. I hear these stories of him reaching through the driver's window of other motorists' cars and throwing their Melways across the road etc. and I can't help but laugh (even though it's not really funny). These "he's actually a really nice guy if you meet him in person" stories are a dime a dozen but he really was. Perhaps it's just in certain situations. I'm not necessarily comparing him to Barry Hall but Brett Kirk once famously said he'd trust Barry Hall with his kids but he just couldn't trust him not to do his nana on the footy field...
Ted Bundy was also described as a nice bloke. Look, I'm sure he is but he still clearly has an issue with controlling his temperament in certain sitautions.

Not sure I am following you here TOO.

Be interesting to see how this would be treated if you replaced Clarkson the coach with an AFl footballer in both circumstances. That being the fist through the wall and abusing an official at a senior footy match. Think it would be treated as more than a storm in a teacup. Reckon Al's getting off pretty lightly.

Ted Bundy was a psychopath who was far too preoccupied with trying to keep his facade intact to ever show his emotions by doing something like punching a hole in a wall (if he actually had any). The whole "wears his heart on his sleeve" discussion and some of the things said about Clarkson earlier in this thread actually made me think of Richo. Ideally one wouldn't be a serial killer or prone to public outbursts of rage but if there's one person who didn't wear his heart on his sleeve or show any of the characteristics people have criticised Clarkson for it's Ted Bundy.

I, along with a fair chunk of 52,000 other supporters, was the angriest man in AFL circles when Shane Tuck had that free kick paid against him in the first quarter for holding the ball after catching the crooked bounce

Yep, RFC sacked a repeat offender for sleeping in and missing a training session. RFC suspended a player for 2 weeks for same transgression. Clarkson violently damages a wall AND swears at a 19 yr old umpires aid and....nothing.

Clarko is alright. Let's not worry what the coach at another club does for kicks and worry about improving ourselves.

Thats because the AFL dont share your lynch mob mentality. Comparing him to Bundy.... Gee whiz.

Neither Dan nor Dusty were sacked or suspended for visible showing of anger or frustration. Being drunk and missing training sessions would be breaching contract conditions. Very different matters. What do you suggest Clarkson's punishment should be for breaking the wall, bearing in mind many coaches have vented their frustration in a way it's more good luck than good management?

He got fined 5k by the Vlad Jacuzzi fund for swearing at an umpire.

Good on ya Clarko.

Umpire *smile*.

He's easily the angriest non medicated man in the AFL!
I love him, though I'm a little scared of him.

I have no idea if missing training sessions would breach their contract.

Clarksons punishment? Some monetary fine for a start. Lids got fined $1950 for showing anger and frustration to the umpire so we can start there. I would assume punching a wall us more serious so....$5000? Compulsory attendance to an anger management course as well.

Imagine if he was our coach the poor guy would have broken every bone in his body twice by now and the MCG would have to be condemned as structurally unsound from the amount of walls he would have punched / kicked / head butted by now.

As for him getting off with nothing, well that's what happens when you have already earned the respect of the AFL world - something that anyone associated with our club would know nothing about.

He has always been an angry person....he was a bully at school, he was a bully on the field and this came out whn he abused an umpire in an Under 9's match. A bit of emotion is great but he seriously needs to curtail his behaviour and think about the example he sets.

There is a long history of anger management issues going back to the Ian Aitken incident in London nearly 25 years ago. He is obviously a very good coach but he definitely has a problem.
