Okay, this is the reality of the RFC.

In our pre-finals era, we scooped up several early draft picks and placed all our hope in them.

They were handed the label of "leaders" and expected to become Pendleburys and Abletts; to lead by sheer expertise.

They're not that good, but most importantly, they've proven to be just normal average people off-field with absolutely no special leadership traits whatsoever, apart from leading by expertise.

The solution now that we've achieved sustained competitiveness? Quality alpha leaders.

Midfielders preferably, like Hodge and Mitchell. I don't need to describe what they bring to a team.

Dangerfield is the only one available.

I reckon we've got 1 in Jack, Cotch should step down and Jack replace him. But yeah we should throw the book at Dangerfield as well as Bennell, as many have said the players haven't got a leg to stand on in terms of pay structure.

they are 'that' good

deledio, cotchin, martin, reiwoldt, rance are very, very good footballer

imho the problem is there are too many below par players on the team

during the season sometimes the high draft picks can carry these potatoes, your grigg and chaplin types

but in finals its very hard to cover a weak bottom six

why does it matter who is the captain? Be it Miles, Rance, Cotchin

its token stuff

cotchin should not have played if he had an injury

im still shocked we did not rest our star players in round 23

Nothings been said about Cotchin being injured as an excuse. As for resting, that wasn't the reason we lost.

almost 30 degrees

the game goes for 2 hours

As has been said repeatedly we lost because we lost our composure early in the 2nd quarter and stopped playing to the game plan.

You can say it as much a you wish but it doesn't make it more true

It was very hot (for football) and unsurprising we we're run over in 2n half

We lack depth overall
We lack inside mids
Our ruck division is near the bottom of the pile

Chaplain and Ivan don't have many years left in them. Transition plan in place?
Everyone else is good to go

Yep we need a good quality ruckman this trade period.
I said in another thread. Our rucks, while consistent and workmanlike (in the mould of 1980s ruckmen), get exposed against the athletic machines of the modern game.

That said, out of left field, any thoughts on Majak Daw? He seems out of favour behind Goldstein, Brown, Petrie and co as big men mainstays in the North line up. So you'd think getting regular firsts footy will be a challenge unless one of these blokes goes down.

Would it be worth trying to get a trade done for him? Would North want to trade him? Do people think he has much upside, or is he not quite up to AFL standard consistently enough? You'd think he wouldn't be on massive money. I know a lot of followers on here are sick of 'moneyball' pick ups. But Daw might be worth a look? Certainly has athleticism in spades!

We need a

* ruckman
* goal-sneak
* defender
* fast midfielder

That is all.

1. BIG gap on the list
2. Lloyd
3. Elton, Griffiths and Castagnza
4. Menadue, Butler and Drummond
and I'll throw in a
5. Silk - Cialis

Ruckman should be No.1
Followed by adding to the midfield.
and a big NO to Watts

Four rucks on the free agents list Kreuzer, Leuenberger, Jamar & Simpson from Geelong, Simpson 26 and 206cm but too injury prone for my liking, Kreuzer the Scum have their hooks into which leaves Leuenberger who the Swans are floating about, Jamar too old would probably retire anyway. Not a lot out there that have experience, Stefan Martin was rumoured but looks like he'll re-sign with the Lions now.
