How many can be cut??

The RFC in a perfect scenario should really look at trying to trade into another 1st round pick, its crucial also another high 2nd rounder would be good too which may allow the club to nail possibly 2 of Talia, Griffiths or Carlisle to ideally go with say a Trengrove and Martin or Tapscott if the Tiges can in a perfect world get #6 from the Coasters but it would cost a "name to get it done".

i know wishful thinking but it aint impossible.

Id look to trade McGuane to Hawx for their 2nd rounder if we could get it from em, couldnt get any more than that for him and that may be stretching it and McMuffin for Saints 3rd would do me, Schulz id trade for whatver pick was offered its time to build and move forward and if one or 2 senior players are moved on to allow the betterment of the list going forward than so be it..

Now the RFC team is 4 less at the end of the home and away season... thanks for the memories, arrivederci and good luck with their future endeavours, whatever they may be.

Kane Johnson
Joel Bowden
Mark Coughlan
Nathan Brown

Damien Hardwick officially commences on Monday... what is the likelihood that 6 or more will go?

Looks like the club is going to cut very very deep and fill the spots with 20-25 year olds from all over Australia, so say the 1st 4-5 picks in the draft are used on under 18 year olds and the next 5-10 picks on this older group. It makes sense to me as a well performed footy smart 20-25 yearold has to be better than at least 1/2 our list. They get a 2 year contract and we just keep turning the list over until we get it right.

The other thing about the 20-25 yearolds is that you know what you are getting and the question is simply will they step up to the next level i.e. Nahas.

Thanks Smiley....back to the original thread. If we cut say 8 or 9, then how do we replace them? Where are these replacements? PSD plus national draft??? I also wonder who would be available from other clubs. Nothing I have read or heard indicates any quality players being on the market, except perhaps Lake, but I doubt he would leave the Bullies, especially for us. What a tangled web we have weaved over the past few years.
gray i believe we have to do two things simutaneously. one is turn over the list proper as quickly as we can. at the same time try and maintain and aquire some sort of list structure. to do this we have no choice but to target some recycled players. as long as the recycleds are upgrades on players we chop.
an example of this is and ive given this before our rucks. realistically moving forward we have just 2 and one of them is no cert.
we dont have a choice next yr these two kids will have to play seniors. personally i think we have to target a mature ruckman to help these kids.
graham pattison and simmonds would not be hard to upgrade on. if possible we take a punt on a 22 24 yr old ruckman like jacobs at carlton. or we target a physical older one like charman at brisbane. we draft at least one ruckman and we rookie list at least one other.

what does this do well it enables us to improve an area of the team immediately. it gives our young ruckmen some protection and time to develop it enables us to clean out 3 deficient players and it puts in our system a couple of young blokes who may turn out to the good.

yep we need to cut deep but we have to be smart in the way we go about it. all decisions have to be a means to an end. we cant waste any picks.

claw,

agree with most of wat u say. the only thing ur wrong about is the older players re charman. we need as many 18yo kids in the draft proper.the we should get as may 20-24yo as we can. we dont need older players for protection or for the time to develop kids. the 20-24yo will be ready to play next year. some 18yo will also playnext year.
some might say u play to many kids as u will get smashed every week. so wwe ill end up bottom 4, maybe last. oh sorry, havent we been doing this already the last 5 10 years. get the kids play the kids, let them develop in the afl to become afl players.

need to cut about 12 players MINIMUM in my opinion!!

Imo it will be 10 this year, 10 next year & 8 in 2011, it needs to be done over a period of time. We could not get enough quality players in one draft if we cut 15 this year.
It's being unrealistic to believe otherwise.
The list might be cr@p atm, but if we cut it as drastically this year as some on here suggest we would take far longer to become competitive.
