Would some learned person please advise this unlearned little ol me how many players can be cut at the end of the year.

No who may be cut, but how many. Is there a limit, or can a club dispose of as many as they wish??

Reading the posts over the past few weeks there seems to be just so many that could be chopped, and I was wondering, how many can we lose?

we can lose as many as we like i think.....but their replacements will be 18 year old kids who have never played senior footy at any level most likely.

You have to cut at least 3. You can cut as many as you want so long as you can replace them within the rules. I don't think any team can cut more than 8 and still put a decent team out on the park. Richmond need to cut as many as they can for the next 3 years. 8 this year, 8 more the following year and maybe 6 - 8 the following year, by then they should have removed all the list cloggers and those that simply won't make it.

Then more list cloggers will pop up from recent drafts. It's a never ending cycle at Punt Road. ;)

Tony Shaw just said he would cut 18 players from our list on AFL teams. I don't disagree with him. Makes you wonder how you can so much sh!t one 1 list. The people in charge have no *smile* idea what they're doing.

polak, bowden, johnson, pettifer must go.
brown, simmonds should go.
We are already at 6 without looking at the disappointing youngsters.

The people in charge may have had no idea, but I don't think an opinion of Tony Shaw's should be used for anything other than comedy purposes.

You have got to be kidding. Shaw is a failed coach who knows absolutely nothing about players as evidenced by his coaching record. And he is a tool to boot.
We are not as bad as everyone thinks. We are playing as a team without confidence and playing an unbalanced team each week that is also full of kids. We are msiing two of our best midfielders, playing injured players (e.g. Moore) and have changed coach mid season. There are only so many holes you can cover. It's not all doom and gloom.
That moron Shaw was saying Hislop should go. How many games has he played? Maybe a dozen. Give me a break.

While Shaw is an idiot on most things, he's right on this. I can easily come up with 18 names to de-list and not blink an eye. None of them would be big losses. Our list is *smile*.

I disagree. We are as bad as everyone thinks. It is going to be a long, painful road.

So the Bombers are on the way up because they beat St Kilda. Hang on didn't we beat them a few weeks ago. Ipso Facto we are better than people think

thats true of all clubs 60% success rate is about the average for all clubs. wrll it was about 3 or 5 yrs ago should be higher now.

it will take 3 drafts to clean out the list cloggers and more than likely another to clean out those picks we get wrong.

What I would like to know is this. How many can we cut and then replace?? I suppose I'm trying to say how many replacements are available to us, be they from other clubs or draft picks. If, and only if we were to say get rid of 10 to 18...shudder...then how would we replace them and from where??

We can get rid of as many as we like Gray. Whatever spots aren't filled come draft time can be filled then. If any spots are still left then we fill them in the PSD.

There was once a rule restricting clubs to 5 players traded out per year, but that was removed last year I think. To me that implies that clubs can trade out as many players as they like and therefore theoretically replace them with the picks they traded them for. For that reason I can't see why clubs can't also delist as many players as they like.

Pretty sure there is a limit.
